New increasingly complex in vitro cancer cell models are being developed. These new models seem to represent the cell behavior in vivo more accurately and have better physiological relevance than prior models. An efficient testing method for selecting the most optimal drug treatment does not exist to date. One proposed solution to the problem involves isolation of cancer cells from the patients' cancer tissue, after which they are exposed to potential drugs alone or in combinations to find the most optimal medication. Retinal detachment with spontaneous dialysis of the ora serrata in a 13-year-old child with neurofibromatosis type 1: a case report.

A 13‑year‑old child diagnosed with neurofibromatosis type 1 who on a routine control presented with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment associated to dialysis of the ora serrata in the left eye (OS). There were no clinical signs or history of contuse ocular trauma. Neurofibromatosis produces alterations in fibroblasts of the cortex of the vitreous base. This results in deficient production of the collagen fibers that anchor the vitreous base to the pars plana and the peripheral neurosensory retina. Thus, suboptimal function of the fibroblasts explains spontaneous avulsion of the vitreous base. Such avulsion in turn is related to dialysis of the ora serrata.

First records of the genera Pseudopoda, Sinopoda, and Olios from Taiwan with descriptions of four new species (Araneae: Sparassidae)

Four new species of the spider family Sparassidae are described from Taiwan: Pseudopoda serrata sp. nov. (male and females), Pseudopoda recta sp. nov. (female), Sinopoda exspectata sp. nov. (male), and Olios scalptor sp. nov. (male). These represent first records of the three genera for Taiwan. A record of Heteropoda venatoria (Linne 1767) is also reported.

Spectral variability is the main tool for constraining emission models of BL Lac objects. By means of systematic observations of the BL Lac prototype PKS 2155-304 in the infrared-optical band, we explore variability on the scales of months, days and hours. We made our observations with the robotic 60 cm telescope REM located at La Silla, Chile. VRIJHK filters were used. PKS 2155-304 was observed from May to December 2005. The wavelength interval explored, the total number of photometric points and the short integration time render our photometry substantially superior to previous ones for this source. Si esamina la diffusione e la circolazione delle reliquie da Roma alla Sicilia e la conseguente proliferazione, a seguito dei dettami del Concilio di Trento recepiti dai vari Sinodi diocesani, di sacre custodie in metallo prezioso o in legno. Vengono, infatti, indagati alcuni reliquiari d’argento che, custoditi nei Tesori siciliani, sono contestualizzati nella pertinente temperie storico-culturale. Frankincense (Boswellia serrata, B. carterii) is used as traditional remedy to treat inflammatory diseases. The molecular effects of the active ingredients, the boswellic acids, on the immune system have previously been studied and verified in several clinical studies. Boswellic acids also inhibit cancer cell growth in vitro and in vivo. The molecular basis of the cytotoxicity of boswellic acids is, however, not fully understood as yet.
