Plasma Etching and Integration with Nanoprocessing
2009
This chapter introduces plasma etching—an extensive and perhaps the most widely used micro- and nanoprocessing method both in industry and in research and development laboratories worldwide. The emphasis is on the practical methods in plasma etching and reactive ion etching when used for submicron and nanoscale device fabrication. The principles of plasma etching and reactive ion etching equipment for sample fabrication will be introduced.

This study aimed to explore the acute effects of static stretching on the musculotendinous properties of two hamstring muscles. Twelve male volunteers underwent two testing sessions. One session was dedicated to the evaluation of the semitendinosus muscle before (PRE) and after (POST) static stretching (five sets of 30-s stretching), and the other session similarly explored the long head of biceps femoris muscle. In addition to the displacement of the myotendinous junction (MTJ), passive torque and maximal voluntary isometric torque (MVIT) were evaluated. MVIT (−8.3 ± 10.2%, p = 0.0036, d = 0.497) and passive torque (−28.4 ± 16.9%, p = 0.0003, d = 1.017) were significantly decreased POST st…
Scanning probe microscopies applied to the study of the domain wall in a ferroelectric crystal.
2007
Summary Scanning near-field optical microscopy is capable of measuring the topography and optical signals at the same time. This fact makes this technique a valuable tool in the study of materials at nanometric scale and, in particular, of ferroelectric materials, as it permits the study of their domains structure without the need of chemical etching and, therefore, not damaging the surface (as will be demonstrated later). We have measured the scanning near-field optical microscopy transmission, as well as the topography, of an RbTiOPO4 single crystalline slab, which exhibits two different of macroscopic ferroelectric domains. A chemical selective etching has been performed to distinguish b…
Optical properties of the low-molecular amorphous azochromophores and their application in holography
2015
The films based on the low-molecular amorphous azochromophore 2-(3-(4-((4- (Ethyl(2-(trityloxy)ethyl)amino)phenyl)diazenyl)styryl)-5,5-dimethylcyclohex-2-enylidene) malononitrile (IWK-2M) were prepared. The optical properties of the material, such as transmittance and reflection spectra of the film, sensitivity to polarization holographic recording by two wavelengths (405 and 532 nm) were studied. The direct relief formation during the polarization holographic recording was explored, relief depth dependence on exposure and record beam intensity was investigated. The holographic matrix on this material base was produced without chemical etching process; the replication of holographic image w…
Anomalous behaviour of periodic domain structure in Gd-doped LiNbO3single crystals
2007
Atomic force microscopy studies of etching patterns, stability of regular domain structure, and anomalies of electrical characteristics in the 300 - 385 K range of a series of Gddoped lithium niobate single crystals grown under equal conditions are reported.
Bactericidal Effect of the Er:YAG Laser on Dental Implant Surfaces: An In Vitro Study
2002
The aim of the in vitro study was to examine the bactericidal effect of an Er:YAG laser on common dental implant surfaces.Seventy-two titanium platelets with 3 different surfaces--sandblasted and acid-etched (SA), titanium plasma-sprayed (TPS), and hydroxyapatite-coated (HA)--were incubated with a suspension of Streptococcus sanguinis (ATCC 10556). Irradiation at pulse energies of 60 and 120 mJ and a frequency of 10 pps was performed on a computer-controlled XY translation stage. After laser treatment the specimens were sonicated and the bacterial growth examined by counting colony forming units on blood agar plates. Temperature elevations during irradiation were investigated using K-type t…

ChemInform Abstract: Photoelectrochemical Study of Electrochemically Formed Semiconducting Yttrium Hydride (YH3-x).
2010
Abstract The first photoelectrochemical study of semiconducting YH 3− x films formed by etching bulk Y metal in 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 solution is reported. The formation of semiconducting hydride having an indirect optical band gap, E g opt , of about 2.35 eV is confirmed by in situ photocurrent spectroscopy. The photoelectrochemical behaviour of such a phase was investigated both in alkaline and in acidic solutions. The flat band potential was estimated to be U fb =−1.25 V/NHE, independent of pH.
Spectroscopic markers of the T-R quaternary transition in human hemoglobin
2004
Improving Web Prefetching by Making Predictions at Prefetch
2007
Most of the research attempts to improve Web prefetching techniques have focused on the prediction algorithm with the objective of increasing its precision or, in the best case, to reduce the user's perceived latency. In contrast, to improve prefetching performance, this work concentrates in the prefetching engine and proposes the Prediction at Prefetch (P@P) technique. This paper explains how a prefetching technique can be extended to include our P@P proposal on real world conditions without changes in the web architecture or HTTP protocol. To show how this proposal can improve prefetching performance an extensive performance evaluation study has been done and the results show that P@P can…
