Dendritic octa-CMPO derivatives of calix[4]arenes
2004
Abstract Calix[4]arenes substituted at the narrow or wide rim by eight carbamoylmethyl-phosphine oxide (CMPO) functions in a dendritic manner were synthesised and studied in extraction of Eu 3+ and Am 3+ from aqueous nitric acid into o -nitrophenylhexyl ether. 1 H NMR relaxivity titrations for a wide rim octa-CMPO reveal the clear formation of a solvent-free 1:2 ligand/metal complex, while the wide rim tetra-CMPO formed oligomeric complexes under similar conditions.
Reduced protein adsorption on plastics via direct plasma deposition of triethylene glycol monoallyl ether
1997
The direct plasma-induced deposition of tri(ethylene glycol) monoallyl ether is reported. RF plasma polymerization of this monomer was carried out under both continuous wave (CW) and pulsed plasma operation. The major focus of this work was optimization of the degree of retention of the C-O-C bonds of the starting monomer during the deposition process. This successfully was accomplished using low RF power during the CW runs and low RF duty cycles during the pulsed plasma experiments. Spectroscopic analysis of the plasma films revealed a strong dependence of film composition on the RF power and duty cycles employed. In particular, an unusually high level of film chemistry compositional contr…
Photocatalytic green synthesis of piperonal in aqueous TiO2 suspension
2014
Abstract Piperonal (heliotropine or 3,4-methylenedioxybenzaldehyde) has been synthesized by oxidizing piperonyl alcohol in aqueous UV-irradiated TiO2 suspensions. This compound was identified by GC–MS chromatography, 1H NMR and melting point determination. The other products of the photoprocess were 1,3-bis(3,4-(methylenedioxy)benzyl) ether (found in traces) and CO2, derived from the parallel pathway of photo-mineralization. Commercial and home-prepared TiO2 samples have been tested and the best selectivity (ca. 35%) was obtained by using the home-prepared ones. The reported green process allows to obtain an added value product (piperonal), upon partial oxidation of a cheap reagent.
Antivirale Wirkstoffe, 20. Mitt. 4,6-Dialkylierte 2-Benzylthiopyrimidine
1981
Aus der Kondensation von Benzylisothioharnstoff (1) mit den β-Diketonen 2a–c gehen die 2-Benzylthiopyrimidine 3a–c hervor. Wird die Reaktion 1+2b jedoch in 30proz. wasr. Antiviral Agents, XX: 4,6-Dialkylated 2-Benzylthiopyrimidines Condensations of benzylisothiourea (1) with the β-diketones 2a–c yield the 4,6-dialkylated 2-benzylthiopyrimidines 3a–c. However, in 30% aqueous potassium carbonate solution/ethanol/ether, the reaction 1+2b proceeds by ethanolysis to form 2-ethox…
Coordination properties of some nickel(II) monophosphono dipeptides species in aqueous solution: The role of phosphonic oxygen in complex stabilizati…
2008
Abstract Equilibrium studies on the nickel(II) complexes of oxygen and nitrogen donor ligand (monophosphono dipeptides: 1- (N- l -leucylamino)methylphosphonic acid – Leu-Gly(P), and a thioether sulfur donor ligands (monophosphono dipeptides: 1-N-(glycyloamino)-2-(S-benzylthio)ethanephosphonic acid – Gly-(Bz)Cys(P), d (−) and Gly-(Bz)Cys(P), d (+) were performed by potentiometric titration and NIR–Vis spectroscopy. Additionally, the ligand-field parameters (CFM/AOM) were estimated and discussed in the tetragonal distortion framework. The lowest tetragonal distortion was observed in the case of the [NiHL] species, whereas the strongest in the case of [NiL2] species. In the latter species the …
Toxicity of the antimalarial artemisinin and its dervatives.
2010
As long as no effective malaria vaccine is available, chemotherapy belongs to the most important weapons fighting malaria. One of the most promising new drug developments is the sesquiterpene artemisinin (ARS) and its derivatives, e.g., artemether, arteether, and sodium artesunate. Large clinical studies and meta-analyses did not show serious side effects, although proper monitoring of adverse effects in developing countries might not be a trivial task. There is a paucity of large-scale clinical trials suitable to detect rare but significant toxicity. Therefore, a final and definitive statement on the safety of artemisinins still cannot be made. In contrast, animal experiments show consider…
Propriétés et performances de phosphines ferrocéniques dans le couplage C-O, C-S et C-N : nouvelles méthodologies de synthèse au palladium
2012
Multidentate ligands usually show great activities in low loading organometallic catalysis in palladium. Among these ligands, the use of ferrocenyl polyphosphane ligands give interesting results. Robust palladium-ferrocenyl triphosphane catalytic systems have permitted to obtain biarylamines and aryl-heteroaryl ethers in the presence of low catalytic loadings. DFT studies on catalytic cycle during formation of aryl-heteroaryl ethers were carried out. The presence of third phosphino group stabilizes a transition state which enhances the rate of the reductive elimination. Triarylamines were obtained with ferrocenyl diphosphane in the presence of 2 mol% of palladium loading. Moderate to excell…
Emerging brominated flame retardants and dechlorane-related compounds in European eels (Anguilla anguilla) from Latvian lakes
2017
Abstract Fifteen halogenated flame retardants (HFRs) including seven emerging brominated flame retardants (EBFRs) and eight dechlorane-related compounds (DRCs) were analyzed in eels (Anguilla anguilla) sampled from five Latvian lakes. Out of the seven EBFRs, hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) and decabromodiphenyl ethane (DBDPE) were found in eels in quantifiable concentrations, up to 6.58 and 33.0 ng g−1 lipid weight (l.w.), respectively. The mean total concentration of DRCs (∑DRC) in the samples was 0.62 ng g−1 l.w. and the geographical distribution of DRC contamination was nearly uniform among the selected lakes. Dechlorane 602 (Dec 602) was the predominant component, whereas the composition …
Diffeomorphisms, Noether charges, and the canonical formalism in two-dimensional dilaton gravity
1995
We carry out a parallel study of the covariant phase space and the conservation laws of local symmetries in two-dimensional dilaton gravity. Our analysis is based on the fact that the Lagrangian can be brought to a form that vanishes on-shell giving rise to a well-defined covariant potential for the symplectic current. We explicitly compute the symplectic structure and its potential and show that the requirement to be finite and independent of the Cauchy surface restricts the asymptotic symmetries.
General overview: European Integrated project on Aerosol Cloud Climate and Air Quality interactions (EUCAARI)-integrating aerosol research from nano …
2011
In this paper we describe and summarize the main achievements of the European Aerosol Cloud Climate and Air Quality Interactions project (EUCAARI). EUCAARI started on 1 January 2007 and ended on 31 December 2010 leaving a rich legacy including: (a) a comprehensive database with a year of observations of the physical, chemical and optical properties of aerosol particles over Europe, (b) comprehensive aerosol measurements in four developing countries, (c) a database of airborne measurements of aerosols and clouds over Europe during May 2008, (d) comprehensive modeling tools to study aerosol processes fron nano to global scale and their effects on climate and air quality. In addition a new Pan…
