Morphology Study of the Porosity of the GaP Surface Layer Formed on the Surface of a Single Crystal by Electrochemical Etching
2021
The article analyzes the morphological characteristics of a porous GaP surface layer formed on the surface of monocrystalline gallium phosphide by electrochemical etching. The correlations between the etching time and the appropriate size, shape and density of pores have been established and studied in detail.

A Novel Plasmonic Nanoantenna for High Efficiency Energy Harvesting Applications
2020
In this paper, the results of a geometric investigation of plasmonic nanoantennas for energy harvesting applications in terms of field enhancement and available power are presented. Optimum performances are obtained by a particular arrow-shaped bowtie nanoantennas geometry. The novel nanoantenna geometry is here presented. The simulations of the novel nanoantennas made of aluminium, on a three-layers substrate, composed by silicon, silicon oxide, and aluminium, carried out with CST 2018 tool, are reported and compared with the classical bowtie nanoantennas ones. This study can guide both the engineering and the fabrication of plasmonic nanoantennas.
Nanostructuring thin Au films on transparent conductive oxide substrates
2013
Fabrication processes of Au nanostructures on indium-tin-oxide (ITO) surface by simple, versatile, and low-cost bottom-up methodologies are investigated in this work. A first methodology exploits the patterning effects induced by nanosecond laser irradiations on thin Au films deposited on ITO surface. We show that after the laser irradiations, the Au film break-up into nanoclusters whose mean size and surface density are tunable by the laser fluence. A second methodology exploits, instead, the patterning effects of standard furnace thermal processes on the Au film deposited on the ITO. We observe, in this case, a peculiar shape evolution from pre-formed nanoclusters during the Au deposition…
An electrochemical route towards the fabrication of nanostructured semiconductor solar cells
2010
This work presents our preliminary results regarding an electrochemical process which allows the growth of nanostructured materials by means of nanopore templates. Also we analyze possible applications of this process to fabricate nanostructured semiconductors, such as CIGS, suitable for photovoltaic devices, and we consider the implications from the perspective of characterization techniques and device modelling when using such a technology.
Superconducting properties of in-plane W-C nanowires grown by He+ Focused Ion Beam Induced Deposition
2021
Focused ion beam induced deposition (FIBID) is a nanopatterning technique that uses a focused beam of charged ions to decompose a gaseous precursor. So far, the flexible patterning capabilities of FIBID have been widely exploited in the fabrication of superconducting nanostructures, using the W(CO)6 precursor mostly in combination with a focused beam of Ga+ ions. Here, the fabrication and characterization of superconducting in-plane tungsten-carbon (W-C) nanostructures by He+ FIBID of the W(CO)6 precursor is reported. A patterning resolution of 10 nm has been achieved, which is virtually unattainable for Ga+ FIBID. When the nanowires are patterned with widths of 20 nm and above, the deposit…
Toward mass producible ordered bulk heterojunction organic photovoltaic devices.
2012
A strategy to fabricate nanostructured poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) films for organic photovoltaic (OPV) cells by a direct transfer method from a reusable soft replica mold is presented. The flexible polyfluoropolyether (PFPE) replica mold allows low-pressure and low- temperature process condition for the successful transfer of nanostructured P3HT films onto PEDOT/PSS-coated ITO substrates. To reduce the fabrication cost of masters in large area, we employed well-ordered anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) as a template. Also, we provide a method to fabricate reversed nanostructures by exploiting the self-replication of replica molds. The concept of the transfer method in low temperature with a fl…
Raman Monitoring of Strain Induced Effects in Mechanically Deposited Single Layer Graphene
2012
Graphene is a two dimensional building block for carbon allotropes of many other dimensionality and shows remarkable electronic and optical properties that attract enormous interest. In order to make graphene useful for real technology, a control of its electronic and mechanical properties is a must. In this respect, a crucial step for the use of graphene layers in device fabrication is the deposition onto suitable substrates, understanding the interaction with them. Micromechanical cleavage of graphite has been used to produce high-quality graphene sheets. The aim of this work is to study the strain effects induced in graphene by the deposition process using Raman spectroscopy and scanning…
