A well-known phenomenon in aviation and in virtual environments such as simulators or computer games is motion sickness (MS). The amount of sensory conflict is thought to be responsible for the severity of MS, which should increase with the complexity of the simulated motion. The focus of the present study is on the direction and complexity of simulated body rotations in the genesis and severity of visually induced MS. Patients requiring interruption of long-term oral anticoagulant therapy: the use of fixed sub-therapeutic doses of low-molecular weight heparin.

Introduction: We tested the efficacy and safety of fixed doses of Low-Molecular Weight Heparin (LMWH) in patients requiring interruption of Vitamin-k Antagonist (VKA) because of invasive procedures Methodology: Pre-operatively, patients discontinued VKA 5 +/- 1days; in those at low-risk for thrombosis, LMWH was given at a prophylactic dosage of 3.800 U.I. (nadroparin) or 4.000 U.I. (enoxaparin) anti-FXa once daily the night before the procedure. In patients at high-risk for thrombosis, LMWH was started early after VKA cessation and given at fixed sub-therapeutic doses (3.800 or 4.000 UI anti-FXa twice daily) until surgery. The role of anticipatory postural adjustments during whole body forward reaching movements

THE purpose of this study was to examine the role of anticipatory postural adjustments (APAs) in the execution of forward oriented whole body reaching movements. From the standing position, eight healthy subjects were asked to reach an object placed at 45 cm from the feet, at both naturally paced and fast speeds. Electromyographic signals of six antagonistic muscles were analysed in conjunction with centre of mass (CM) displacements, centre of foot pressure displacements and resultant ground reaction forces. Abstract Background Various treatment options for the prosthetic treatment of jaws where all molars are lost are under discussion. Besides the placement of implants, two main treatment types can be distinguished: replacement of the missing molars with removable dental prostheses and non-replacement of the molars, i.e. preservation of the shortened dental arch. Background: Whether a fixed cutoff or the lower limit of normal of the FEV1/FVC ratio should be used to diagnose bronchial obstruction is still a matter of debate. Fixed point theorems for fuzzy mappings and applications to ordinary fuzzy differential equations

Abstract Ran and Reurings (Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 132(5):1435-1443, 2004) proved an analog of the Banach contraction principle in metric spaces endowed with a partial order and discussed some applications to matrix equations. The main novelty in the paper of Ran and Reurings involved combining the ideas in the contraction principle with those in the monotone iterative technique. Motivated by this, we present some common fixed point results for a pair of fuzzy mappings satisfying an almost generalized contractive condition in partially ordered complete metric spaces. Let G be a finite group that acts on a nonzero finite dimensional vector space V over an arbitrary field. Assume that V is completely reducible as a G-module, and that G fixes no nonzero vector of V. We show that some element g ∈ G has a small fixed-point space in V. Specifically, we prove that we can choose g so that dim C V (g) < (1/p)dim V, where p is the smallest prime divisor of |G|.

An Integral Version of Ćirić’s Fixed Point Theorem

We establish a new fixed point theorem for mappings satisfying a general contractive condition of integral type. The presented theorem generalizes the well known Ciric's fixed point theorem [Lj. B. Ciric, Generalized contractions and fixed point theorems, Publ. Inst. Math. 12 (26) (1971) 19-26]. Some examples and applications are given.

AbstractIn this paper we study homoclinic loops of vector fields in 3-dimensional space when the two principal eigenvalues are real of opposite sign, which we call almost planar. We are interested to have a theory for higher codimension bifurcations. Almost planar homoclinic loop bifurcations generically occur in two versions “non-twisted” and “twisted” loops. We consider high codimension homoclinic loop bifurcations under generic conditions.
