1H nmr chemical shifts of [14]annulenes and their dianion salts

1987

Abstract The bridged (14]annulene 2 was reduced into its dianion and the structure of the dianion salt was proven by chemical and spectroscopic means. The 1H NMR spectroscopic properties of 2 are similar to those of the structurally related bridged [14]annulene 1 , whereas the corresponding dianions 2 2- and 1 2- are strikingly different. The geometries of 1 and 2 and their dianions were studied by means of a modified π-SCF force field approach. Almost planar perimeters without significant bond length alternation are obtained for the neutral annulenes 1 and 2 , whereas their dianions are characterized by structures with reduced symmetry. The 1H chemical shifts of the bridged [14]annulenes a…

Example, please! Comparing the effects of single customer reviews and aggregate review scores on online shoppers' product evaluations

2014

Many websites of online retail stores display two forms of electronic word of mouth on a single product site, namely single customer reviews and aggregate review scores. This study compares the effects of simultaneously presented single customer reviews and aggregate review scores on product evaluations of visitors of online retail stores. We hypothesize that well-argued single customer reviews should be more influential than aggregate review scores that display the mean rating of all published reviews of a product. Drawing on a 2 × 2 factorial online experiment, we show that a single customer review is effective, even when potential buyers do not perceive it as representing overall custome…

An allergen-polymeric nanoaggregate as a new tool for allergy vaccination.

2014

Parietaria pollen is one of the major causes of allergic reaction in southern Europe, affecting about 30% of all allergic patients in this area. Specifi immunotherapy is the only treatment able to modify the natural outcome of the disease by restoring a normal immunity against allergens. The preparation of allergen-solid lipid nanoparticles as delivery vehicles for therapeutic proteins, P. judaica major allergen Par j 2, was investigated. The Par j 2 allergen was expressed in a large amount in Escherichia coli and purifid to homogeneity. Its immunological properties were studied by western blotting and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay inhibition. Solid lipid nanoparticles were obtained by …

Engineering in-plane mechanics of electrospun polyurethane scaffolds for cardiovascular tissue applications

2021

Effective cardiovascular tissue surrogates require high control of scaffold structural and mechanical features to match native tissue properties, which are dependent on tissue-specific mechanics, function heterogenicity, and morphology. Bridging scaffold processing variables with native tissue properties is recognized as a priority for advancing biomechanical performance of biomedical materials and, when translated to the clinical practice, their efficacy. Accordingly, this study selected electrospinning on a rotating cylindrical target as an apparatus of broad application and mapped the relationship between key processing variables and scaffold mechanics and structure. This information was…

Characterization of glycoconjugate expression during development of Meckel's cartilage in the rat

1995

The staining patterns of 24 biotinylated lectins were analyzed in serial sections of the mandible of 13- to 21-day-old rat embryos by means of the avidin-biotin-peroxidase method. A ubiquitous distribution of binding sites was demonstrated after incubation with Con A (Canavalia ensiformis), DSL (Datura stramonium; except bone matrix), and WGA (Triticum vulgare). ECL (Erythrina cristagalli), GSL I (Griffonia simplicifolia), SJA (Saphora japonica), VVL (Vicia villosa), DBA (Dolichus biflorus), UEA I (Ulex europeus), and LTA (Lotus tetragonobolus) were constantly negative. In early stages of development, GSL II (Griffonia simplicifolia II) was a selective marker of prechondral blastema. In con…

An AER handshake-less modular infrastructure PCB with x8 2.5Gbps LVDS serial links

2014

Nowadays spike-based brain processing emulation is taking off. Several EU and others worldwide projects are demonstrating this, like SpiNNaker, BrainScaleS, FACETS, or NeuroGrid. The larger the brain process emulation on silicon is, the higher the communication performance of the hosting platforms has to be. Many times the bottleneck of these system implementations is not on the performance inside a chip or a board, but in the communication between boards. This paper describes a novel modular Address-Event-Representation (AER) FPGA-based (Spartan6) infrastructure PCB (the AER-Node board) with 2.5Gbps LVDS high speed serial links over SATA cables that offers a peak performance of 32-bit 62.5…

Synthesis and biological activity of novel sialyl-lewisX conjugates

1996

Abstract Novel sialyl Lewis X conjugates have been synthesized and evaluated as inhibitors of E- and P-selectin mediated cell adhesion in cell culture assays. The most potent conjugate in the static inhibition assays exhibited a significant and dose-dependent pharmacological potency as inhibitor of the edotoxin-induced leukocyte adhesion to the endothelium of postcapillary venules in rats.

On the impact of within-die process variation in GALS-Based NoC Performance

2012

[EN] Current integration scales allow designing chip multiprocessors (CMP), where cores are interconnected by means of a network-on-chip (NoC). Unfortunately, the small feature size of current integration scales causes some unpredictability in manufactured devices because of process variation. In NoCs, variability may affect links and routers causing them not to match the parameters established at design time. In this paper, we first analyze the way that manufacturing deviations affect the components of a NoC by applying a new comprehensive and detailed within-die variability model to 200 instances of an 8¿8 mesh NoC synthesized using 45 nm technology. Later, we show that GALS-based NoCs pr…

Experimental analysis with FPGA controller-based of MC PWM techniques for three-phase five level cascaded H-bridge for PV applications

2016

The FPGA represents a valid solution for the design of control systems for inverters adopted in the field of PV systems because of their high flexibility of use. This paper presents an experimental analysis of the MC SPWM techniques for a three-phase, five-level, cascaded H-Bridge inverter with FPGA controller-based. Several control algorithms are implemented by means of the VHDL programming language and the output voltage waveforms obtained from the main PWM techniques are compared in terms of THD%. Simulation and experimental results are analysed, compared and discussed.

Influence of correlations between stresses on calculated fatigue life of machine elements

1996

The correlation between components of the random stress tensor and its influence on the calculated fatigue life of machine elements were analysed. Three covariance matrices of components of biaxial stress state were considered. They were determined from measurements of strains in an element of a vibrating screen for aggregate, in the back wall of a bus, and in a welded element of excavator fittings. Calculations were made according to four criteria of multiaxial random fatigue. Cycles were counted with the rainflow method, and damage was cumulated with the Palmgren-Miner hypothesis. It was found that convariances of random stress state components strongly influence the calculated fatigue li…
