Influence of lipid physical state on the in vitro digestibility of emulsified lipids.

The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of the physical state of emulsified lipids on their in vitro digestibility by pancreatic lipase. A 10 wt % tripalmitin oil-in-water emulsion stabilized by sodium dodecyl sulfate (0.9 wt % SDS) was prepared at a temperature (>70 degrees C) above the melting point of the lipid phase (T(m) approximately 60 degrees C). A portion of this emulsion was cooled to a temperature (0 degrees C for 15 min) well below the crystallization temperature of the emulsified lipid (T(c) approximately 22 degrees C) and then warmed to 37 degrees C so as to have completely solid lipid particles. Does the addition of caseinophosphopeptides or milk improve zinc in vitro bioavailability in fruit beverages?

Abstract The influence of caseinophosphopeptides (CPPs) added to fruit beverage versus milk based fruit beverage upon zinc retention, transport, and uptake, as well as the influence of Fe supplementation, were studied using a combined simulated gastrointestinal digestion/Caco-2 cell system. Zinc retention, transport, and uptake of milk based fruit beverage was 4- to 5-fold greater than that of fruit beverages with or without CPPs – no statistically significant differences being observed in relation to the presence or absence of CPPs. Abstract Three fruit beverages: Fb (grape–orange–apricot), FbFe (Fb + iron sulphate) and FbFeM (FbFe + skimmed milk) were subjected to in vitro gastrointestinal digestion. Addition of Fe and milk decreased the phenolic content of Fb by 13% and 55%, respectively. The digestion process decreased the phenolic content by 47%, 60%, and 70% in Fb, FbFe and FbFeM with respect to the initial, non-digested, Fb. Caco-2 cells were incubated for 4 h daily for four days or continuously for 24 h with bioaccessible fractions obtained after the digestion (digests). Polyphenols were not metabolised by Caco-2 cells. Determination of mineral and trace element concentrations in pine needles by ICP-OES: evaluation of different sample pre-treatment methods

In the present study, the determination of mineral and trace elements (Al, B, Ca, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, P and Zn) from pine needles using three sample pre-treatment methods followed by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry, was examined. Sample pre-treatment methods tested were microwave digestion, ultrasound-assisted digestion and dry ashing. The new ultrasound-assisted digestion method was optimised by the analysis of the standard reference material (SRM) 1575a (pine needles) sample. We base our work on interviews of Chinese managers living in and around Shanghai. We use the neo-institutional theoretical stream, which considers that a country’s economy is influenced by cultural and institutional phenomena. In a first part, we describe the theoretical background to the research and our method. Then, in a second part, we present the significant cultural and institutional features of China that enable us to justify several hypotheses about our topic. Procedures of Separation and Pre‐concentration for Molybdenum Determination Using Atomic Spectrometry—a Review

Abstract The literature concerning the improvement of atomic and ionic procedures for molybdenum determination through separation and pre‐concentration were updated. Analytical procedures based on flame atomic absorption spectrometry (AAAS), electrothermal or graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS), inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP‐OES), and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry were reviewed taking into consideration the preliminary steps, which can enhance the selectivity and sensitivity based on co‐precipitation, solvent extraction, and solid‐phase extraction. Both in‐batch and on‐line procedures were considered.

Casein phosphopeptides released by simulated gastrointestinal digestion of infant formulas and their potential role in mineral binding

Abstract Adapted and follow-up milk-based infant formulas were subjected to gastrointestinal digestion simulating physiological conditions. The naturally occurring casein phosphopeptides (CPPs) generated were fractionated by anion exchange high-performance liquid chromatography and sequenced by tandem mass spectrometry. In both infant formula digests, a total of 19 CCPs from bovine casein were identified, of which 7 corresponded to α s1 -casein and 12 to α s2 -casein. Most CPPs had the cluster sequence SpSpSpEE, representing the binding sites for minerals. ICP-MS multielement determination in fly ash after microwave-assisted digestion of samples.

A microwave assisted digestion procedure has been developed for dissolution of fly ash samples prior to the inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometric determination of their elemental composition. The developed methodology was validated by carrying out the analysis of two high-silicate containing reference materials (CRM 134R sewage amended soil and NIES JR 1 rock) and by means of the comparison between results found by microwave-assisted digestion and ICP-MS of fly ash samples with those found by neutron activation analysis (NAA) for Sb, Cs, Cr, Co, Fe, U and Zn determination. The method developed can be recommended for routine multielement analysis of fly ash.

Abstract A method of ultrasound-assisted digestion followed by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) used for the determination of toxic element concentrations (arsenic, barium, cobalt, copper, lead, nickel, strontium, vanadium and zinc) in ash samples was developed. All the measurements were performed in robust plasma conditions which were tested by measuring the Mg(II) 280.270 nm/Mg(I) 285.213 nm line intensity ratios.
