Preliminary magnetic resonance relaxometric analysis of Fricke gel dosimeters produced with polyvinyl alcohol and glutaraldehyde
2017
This work describes the preliminary analysis of Fricke gels dosimeters characterized by a new formulation making use of a matrix of polyvinyl alcohol cross-linked by adding glutaraldehyde and analyzed by means of nuclear magnetic resonance relaxometry. In previous optical studies, these gels have shown promising dosimetric features in terms of photon sensitivity and low diffusion of ferric ions produced after irradiation. In this work, we used a portable nuclear magnetic resonance relaxometer to measure the relaxation times (which are important for dosimetric applications) of these gel materials. For this purpose, we performed a study for optimizing the acquisition parameters with a nuclear…
Computer assisted morphometric analysis of ram sperm heads: Evaluation of different fixative techniques
1998
The recent development of automated systems for morphometric sperm head analysis has provided a series of objective parameters which have facilitated the standardization of morphological semen evaluation. This current work attempts to establish the optimum fixing conditions for the morphometric characterization of ram spermatozoa. Ejaculates were obtained from 5 Merino rams used for periodic collection of semen and were diluted at 1:50 with TEST medium. Air-dried smears were fixed either in ethanol-ether (1:1), 50% methanol, 2% glutaraldehyde or SUZA fixative, in which case the smear was pretreated with chloramine. The samples were then stained with commercial kit Hemacolor. Once the prepar…
New hydrogel matrices based on chemical crosslinked α,β -polyas parthydrazide: Synthesis, characterization and in vivo biocompatibility studies
1996
New swellable micromatrices of α,β-polyasparthydrazide (PAHy) crosslinked with glutaraldehyde were prepared. The effect of crosslinking agent concentration was evaluated. In particular, crosslinking density affected aqueous dynamic swelling and glass-transition temperature of the material. The structure of prepared networks was also studied by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray analysis. Finally, biocompatibility of PAHy derivatives was investigated in vivo by subcutaneous implantation and in oral administration to laboratory animals.
Synthesis and characterization of modified sulfonated chitosan for beryllium recovery
2019
Abstract A new adsorbent, sulfated crosslinked chitosan (SGCH), has been synthesized for the effective extraction of beryllium ions from their aqueous solutions. In recent times, beryllium extraction has been of great importance because beryllium can be used in many applications such as in nuclear reactor, heat shields, high-technology ceramics, alloys and electronic heat sinks. SGCH has been synthesized by two successive phases. The first is the conversion of chitosan (CH) into non-soluble cross-linked chitosan (GCH) through the interaction between chitosan and glutaraldehyde. The second step is the formation of functional sulfonate groups onto the adsorbent material through the interactio…
Influence of the polymerization step alone on oxygen affinity and cooperativity during production of hyperpolymers from native hemoglobins with cross…
1994
The aim of this study was to find out how the polymerization per se changes oxygen affinity (P50) and cooperativity (n50) of various soluble huge hyperpolymers prepared from native hemoglobins by crosslinking. Increase of cooperativity would be expected considering natural hemoglobin networks. Those hyperpolymers with molecular weights of some 10(6) g/mol are candidates for artificial oxygen-carrying blood additives rather than volume substitutes. Human and bovine hemoglobin reacted with several crosslinkers (2,5-diisothiocyanatobenzenesulfonate (DIBS); 4,4'-diisothiocyanatostilbene-2, 2'-disulfonate (DIDS); 1,3-butadiene diepoxide (BUDE); glutaraldehyde (GDA)) in concentrated (case 1) and …
An immunoassay for terbutryn using direct hapten linkage to a glutaraldehyde network on the polystyrene surface of standard microtiter plates.
2001
2-Aminobutylamino-4-ethylamino-6-isopropylamino-1,3,5-triazine (ABA-atrazine) has been synthesized and used as a coating hapten in an immunoassay with a monoclonal antibody against terbutryn. Coating was achieved by covalently linking ABA-atrazine to a glutaraldehyde polymer network directly bound to the polystyrene surface of a standard 96-well microtiter plate. The assay was carefully optimized. In particular, the coating hapten concentration had a strong effect on the ELISA sensitivity. By including a pre-incubation step a low test midpoint (IC50-value) of 0.130 microg L(-1) was achieved. As far as we are aware this is the most sensitive ELISA for terbutryn yet reported. The coating-hapt…
Swellable microparticles containing Suprofen: evaluation of in vitro release and photochemical behaviour
1998
Suprofen, an anti-inflammatory drug was incorporated in polymer networks based on biocompatible macromolecules, such as alpha,beta-polyasparthydrazide (PAHy) and alpha,beta-poly(N-hydroxyethyl)-DL-aspartamide (PHEA) crosslinked by glutaraldehyde or gamma-rays, respectively. Swelling tests carried out in aqueous media showed that pH value affects the swelling degree of the prepared hydrogels. In vitro release tests were performed in simulated gastrointestinal fluids (pH 1/6.8) using the pH variation method and in phosphate-buffered saline, pH 7.4. Experimental data indicated that Suprofen was released in a sustained way both from PAHy and PHEA microparticles. Further, incorporation of Suprof…
Localization of Ca(2+)-stores and tissue compartments with a Ca(2+)-binding capacity in the organ of Corti of the guinea-pig by electron energy-loss …
1992
SUMMARY The addition of 10 mM CaCl2 to glutaraldehyde fixative leads to the formation of small electron-dense deposits in the organ of Corti of the guinea-pig. These precipitates are mainly attached to cell membranes in contact with different extracellular lymphatic fluids. A higher number of precipitates is localized in the acellular parts of tectorial and basilar membrane. Electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) was used to determine the elemental composition of the deposits formed. The spectra showed a prominent signal at the Ca2+ L2,3 ionization edge. Oxygen could also be detected in all the precipitates analysed. EELS analysis of mitochondria of the inner and outer hair cells after co…
Cyclopolymerisation einiger glutardialdehyde. Struktur der polymeren
1962
Analysis of the response of PVA-GTA Fricke-gel dosimeters with clinical magnetic resonance imaging
2018
Abstract Fricke gel dosimeters produced with a matrix of Poly-vinyl alcohol (PVA) cross-linked with glutaraldehyde (GTA) were analyzed with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Previous studies based on spectrophotometry showed valuable dosimetric features of these gels in terms of X-ray sensitivity and diffusion of the ferric ions produced after irradiation. In this study, MRI was performed on the gels at 1.5 T with a clinical scanner in order to optimize the acquisition parameters and obtain high contrast between irradiated and non-irradiated samples. The PVA gels were found to offer good linearity in the range of 0–10 Gy and a stable signal for several hours after irradiation. The sensitivi…
