Structure-activity relationship of dopaminergic halogenated 1-benzyl-tetrahydroisoquinoline derivatives
2009
Two series of halogenated 1-benzyl-7-chloro-6-hydroxy-tetrahydroisoquinolines were prepared to explore the influence of each series on the affinity for dopamine receptors. All the compounds displayed a high affinity for D(1)-like and/or D(2)-like dopamine receptors in striatal membranes, although they were unable to inhibit [(3)H]-dopamine uptake in striatal synaptosomes. The halogen placed on the benzylic ring in 1-benzyl-THIQs, compounds of the series 1, 2'-bromobenzyl derivatives with K(i) values into the nanomolar range, and the series 2, 2',4'-dichlorobenzyl-THIQ homologues, proves to be an important factor to modulate affinity at dopamine receptor. Iron Oxide/Hydroxide Nanoparticles with Negatively Charged Shells Show Increased Uptake in Caco-2 Cells
2012
The absorption of commonly used ferrous iron salts from intestinal segments at neutral to slightly alkaline pH is low, mainly because soluble ferrous iron is easily oxidized to poorly soluble ferric iron and because ferrous iron, but not ferric iron, is carried by the divalent metal transporter DMT-1. Moreover, ferrous iron frequently causes gastrointestinal side effects. Iron hydroxide nanoparticles with neutral and hydrophilic carbohydrate shells are alternatively used to ferrous salts. In these formulations gastrointestinal side effects are rare because hundreds of ferric iron atoms are safely packed in nanoscaled cores surrounded by the solubilizing shell; nevertheless, iron bioavailabi…

Preparation of 2,3-seco-5α-cholestane-2,3-diol and 4α-methyl-2,3-seco-5α-cholestane-2,3-diol and its reactions with o-nitrophenyl selenocyanate
1984
The reaction of 2,3-seco-5 alpha-cholestane-2,3-diol and 4 alpha-methyl-2,3-seco-5 alpha-cholestane-2,3-diol with o-nitrophenyl selenocyanate was studied. The diols were synthesized from cholesterol.
Synthesis and preliminary in vivo evaluation of well-dispersed biomimetic nanocrystalline apatites labeled with positron emission tomographic imaging…
2015
In recent years, biomimetic synthetic apatite nanoparticles (AP-NPs), having chemical similarity with the mineral phase of bone, have attracted a great interest in nanomedicine as potential drug carriers. To evaluate the therapeutic perspectives of AP-NPs through the mechanisms of action and organs they interact with, the noninvasive monitoring of their in vivo behavior is of paramount importance. To this aim, here the feasibility to radiolabel AP-NPs ("naked" and surface-modified with citrate to reduce their aggregation) with two positron emission tomographic (PET) imaging agents ([F-18]NaF and Ga-68-NO(2)AP(BP)) was investigated. [F-18]NaF was used for the direct incorporation of the radi…
One pot light assisted green synthesis, storage and antimicrobial activity of dextran stabilized silver nanoparticles.
2014
Background Green synthesis of nanomaterials finds the edge over chemical methods due to its environmental compatibility. Herein, we report green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) mediated with dextran. Dextran was used as a stabilizer and capping agent to synthesize Ag NPs using silver nitrate (AgNO3) under diffused sunlight conditions. Results UV–vis spectra of as synthesized Ag nanoparticles showed characteristic surface plasmon band in the range from ~405-452 nm. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) studies showed spherical Ag NPs in the size regime of ~50-70 nm. Face centered cubic lattice of Ag NPs was confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD…
Dissociation-constants of metat-ion-complexes with alkaline phosphatase from pig kidney.
1976
Using metal-ion buffers it was possible to remove Zn2+, Mg2+ and Mn2+ ions of pig kidney alkaline phosphatase reversibly. The dissociation constants obtained are KEMg: 4 X 10(-7) M, KEMn: 4 X 10(-8) M and KEZn: 8 X 10(-13) M (22 degrees C, pH: 9.6, mu: 0.07).
Adenine nucleotide metabolism during anoxia and postanoxic recovery in insects
1996
Severe hypoxia (anoxia), if maintained for more than a few minutes, causes irreversible damage in humans and other mammals. Why mammals are so vulnerable to anoxia is not fully understood. It is therefore of interest to study animals that are more tolerant of anoxia in order to identify physiological and metabolic properties that are correlated with a high tolerance of anoxia. Insects have high metabolic rates and their energy metabolism is dependent on aerobic ATP production. In insects, as in mammals, anoxia causes a rapid breakdown of physiological function, resulting in a state similar to rigor mortis. This is accompanied by a precipitous decrease in metabolic rate. In contrast to mamma…

Determination of boron concentration in blood and tissue samples from patients with liver metastases of colorectal carcinoma using Prompt Gamma Ray A…
2010
As part of the studies on Boron Neutron Capture Therapy at the University of Mainz, Germany, a clinical trial has been started, in which our patients suffering from liver metastases of colorectal carcinoma, have been enrolled. Specimens of blood and healthy tissue samples taken from the patients were measured at the PGAA facilities at the HFR in Petten, The Netherlands, and at the FRM II in Munich, Germany. From the measured boron concentrations, pharmacokinetic curves and blood-to-tissue concentration ratios were produced.
