Investigating mathematics teacher identity development: A theoretical consideration
2015
International audience; The paper discusses a theoretical framework for investigating the process of becoming a mathematics teacher, based on the need to better understand how mathematics and teaching combine in developing mathematics teacher identities. Identity is understood as a function of participation in and at the boundaries of various communities of practice, during university teacher education and at school. In order to reveal possible relationships between developing teacher identities and the discipline of mathematics, teachers' changing concept images of mathematics are embedded within the definition of identity.

Poetics of the "savage" : practice of tattooing in the modern world
2012
Ancient as it may be the popularity for tattoo does not seem to wane in the West. Indeed, we can find a great number of tattoo studios, exhibitions or magazines in our cities. The iconography of the brand seems to be the result of an amazing syncretism of which the "wild" imagery is an important part. Maori tattoos, Arabic calligraphy, dragons and wild animals, not from Western culture, are indeed very popular patterns. True mode of expressions of the skin, the ethnic tattoo indicates a certain view of the world, a view of the Other, as the path one chooses to follow in order to search for a "sense of self". Since the cabinets of curiosities of the sixteenth century, the Western world colle…

Monetary policy and the redistribution of net worth in the U.S
2021
The view that expansionary monetary policy can exacerbate both income and wealth inequality by increasing asset prices has become increasingly popular. The aim of this paper is to study the distributive effects of monetary policy on wealth inequality. In the first part of this research, we develop a simple framework based on accounting identity to examine the redistributive repercussions of changes in monetary policy on net worth through different channels. Based on this framework, in the second part of the paper, we show empirical evidence concerning the effects of monetary policy on wealth inequality in the US. To derive this, we combined macro and micro data, and proceeded in two steps. …
Becoming agentic teachers : Experiences of the home group approach as a resource for supporting teacher students' agency
2018
Abstract This study focuses on the experiences of first-year teacher students in a Finnish teacher education department regarding ways in which studying in stable “home groups” supported or restricted their agency. The findings of the interviews with 22 teacher students suggest that perception of home groups as emotionally safe and offering opportunities to break traditional authority relationship supported teacher students' agency, which was manifested in identity negotiations and active participation. Perception of inequality and tensions within home groups restricted students' agency. The findings underline the need for keen awareness of factors affecting teacher students' agency when ap…
Multiple viewpoints increase students' attention to source features in social question and answer forum messages
2016
International audience; Social question & answer forums offer great learning opportunities, but students need to evaluate the credibility of answers to avoid being misled by untrustworthy sources. This critical evaluation may be beyond the capabilities of students from primary and secondary school. We conducted 2 studies to assess how students from primary, secondary, and undergraduate education perceive and use 2 relevant credibility cues in forums: author's identity and evidence used to support his answer. Students didn't use these cues when they evaluated forums with a single answer (Experiment 1), but they recommended more often answers from self‐reported experts than from users with a …
