In the European Water Framework Directive, zooplankton was not included as a Biological Quality Element despite its important place in the aquatic trophic web. In the present study on zooplankton abundances and biomasses, we used several metrics to test their ability to detect differences among trophic statuses and ecological potential levels, and collected a large sum of data in more than 60 reservoirs at Ebro watershed, on more than 300 sampling occasions over 10 years. Our results indicate that most zooplankton metrics are correlated to environmental variables that determine reservoirs’ trophic states, especially chlorophyll a and total phosphorus. Tobacco plants, heterozygous for two independent loci involved in the chlorophyll parenchyma differentiation, allow the genotoxic effects of the atmosphere of the industrial estate South of Toulouse to be estimated. Somatic spots of green cellular colonies on yellow-green background, were counted to calculate the cellular rates of reversion. Two experiments were carried out in 1981, and in 1997. A general decrease of genotoxic effects was observed. Abstract A single channel FIA assembly is proposed for the spectrophotometric determination of adrenaline, the aqueous sample solution is directly injected into the carrier stream leading the sample through a manganese dioxide column at 80°C, and on to the spectrophotometer flow-cell. The calibration graph is linear up to 17 ppm of adrenaline. The influence of other substances has been studied and the method has been applied to the determination of adrenaline in a pharmaceutical formulation.

A procedure for the evaluation of the wheat flour hardness, based on capillary electrophoresis of a protein extract in an isoelectric acidic buffer, was developed. The 13 flour samples were extracted twice, and two injections of each extract were made. Separations were performed in a background electrolyte (BGE) containing 40 mM aspartic acid, 6 M urea, and 0.5% hydroxyethylcellulose at 60 degrees C. The study of a number of diphenhydramine-dye systems was carried out in order to determine the most suitable precipitate for the turbidimetric determination of diphenhydramine using flow injection (FI). The reagent selected was Bromophenol Blue. The chemical and FI variables were optimised. The calibration graph was linear over the concentration range 50-230 p.p.m. of diphenhydramine hydrochloride. Abstract A new extraction-spectrophotometric method for the determination of hydralazine, based on its reaction with 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde at 25 °C, is described. The calibration curve was linear between 0.4 and 6 mg/mL of hydralazine. The molar absorbtivity of the product at 408 nm is 40 900 L · mol − 1 · cm − 1 . The method described was applied to the analysis of hydralazine in pharmaceutical preparations containing reserpine, hydrochlorothiazide, bendrofluorthiazine, propranolol, and other substances. The agreement with the U.S.P. XXI method was satisfactory for tablets and injections, but not for pellets.
