Acute hormonal and muscular responses and recovery : chronic adaptations to single session combined strength and endurance training with regard to or…
2012
Combining both strength (S) and endurance (E) exercise loadings into a single training session can be considered to be of interest e.g. for time management purposes. However, the first loading in a combined session tends to produce notable acute fatigue responses, which can lead to the second loading being performed in a compromised state. Research on fatigue and recovery from a combined session with different loading orders is currently scarce, with even less attention given to the acute responses. Thus, this study investigated the long-term adaptations in the acute responses of a combined strength and endurance loading and whether or not there is an order effect. A total of 29 male subjec…
El fundamento liberal del derecho a la intimidad
2021
T: The right to privacy is configured as a ?retaining wall? against State interference into the private sphere of people?s life. Throughout this work we will try to expose the philosophical-liberal foundations that have led us to what is now conceived as the ?right to privacy?.
Design of EMI Filters Using Multi-Objective Optimization
2018
A multi-objective design procedure for EMI filters in power converters is proposed. In a first step, the results obtained by an automatic design of EMI filters for power electronic converters oriented to satisfy the electromagnetic compatibility standards and the power density constraint which impose the minimization of the filter volume and/or weight, are evaluated. In a second step, the power losses and the cost related to the EMI filter configurations are estimated. By using the dominance concept, the EMI filter designs which are part of the Pareto front are selected among a discrete set of feasible configurations. Therefore, the configurations of the Pareto front take into consideration…
Designing Precoding and Receive Matrices for Interference Alignment in MIMO Interference Channels
2017
Interference is a key bottleneck in wireless communication systems. Interference alignment is a management technique that align interference from other transmitters in the least possibly dimension subspace at each receiver and provides the remaining dimensions for free interference signal. An uncoordinated interference is an example of interference which cannot be aligned coordinately with interference from coordinated part; consequently, the performance of interference alignment approaches are degraded. In this paper, we propose a rank minimization method to enhance the performance of interference alignment in the presence of uncoordinated interference sources. Firstly, to obtain higher mu…
MicroRNAs as Novel Targets in Liver Cancer: Facing the Clinical Challenge
2014
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a major cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide with a rising incidence in the western world. HCCs are characterized by a phenotypic and molecular heterogeneity that limits therapeutic progress. MicroRNAs play a major role for the pathogenesis and progression of liver cancer. As an essential part of the RNA interference machinery, microRNAs contribute to the regulation of many pro-oncogenic processes in HCC, including proliferation, migration, and survival. Therefore, these epigenetically active small molecules advanced to attractive targets for both diagnosis and therapy of liver cancer. Here, we will try to delineate the role of microRNAs during liver de…
Single-Element Reflective Digital Holographic Microscopy
2021
Digital holographic microscopy (DHM) is a well-known microscopy technique using an interferometric architecture for quantitative phase imaging (QPI) and it has been already implemented utilizing a large number of interferometers. Among them, single-element interferometers are of particular interest due to its simplicity, stability, and low cost. Here, we present an extremely simple common-path interferometric layout based on the use of a single one-dimensional diffraction grating for both illuminating the sample in reflection and generating the digital holograms. The technique, named single-element reflective digital holographic microscopy (SER-DHM), enables QPI and topography analysis of r…
Cigarette smoke increases BLT2 receptor functions in bronchial epithelial cells: in vitro and ex vivo evidence
2013
Summary Leukotriene B4 (LTB4) is a neutrophil chemotactic molecule with important involvement in the inflammatory responses of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Airway epithelium is emerging as a regulator of innate immune responses to a variety of insults including cigarette smoke, the major risk factor for COPD. In this study we have explored whether cigarette smoke extracts (CSE) or soluble mediators present in distal lung fluid samples (mini-bronchoalveolar lavages) from smokers alter the expression of the LTB4 receptor 2 (BLT2) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α (PPAR-α) in bronchial epithelial cells. We also evaluated the effects of CSE on the expression of i…
An Improved Detection Technique for Cyclic-Prefixed OFDM
2010
A novel Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing detection technique compatible to standard (e.g. Wireless LAN) transmitters is proposed. It features enhanced error-rate performance with flexible computational complexity and robustness to imperfect channel estimation. It is based on exploitation of the redundancy available in the cyclic prefix after cancellation of interference from the preceding block. In order to show the effectiveness of our proposal, an analysis of computational complexity and a number of comparisons to the standard per-subcarrier receiver and a previously existing method in terms of error rates are reported.
MicroRNAs in solid organ and vascularized composite allotransplantation: Potential biomarkers for diagnosis and therapeutic use
2020
Abstract Nowadays, solid organ transplantation (SOT) is an established treatment for patients with end-organ dysfunction, which dramatically improves the quality-of-life. Vascularized composite allotransplants (VCAs) including hand and face have been reported worldwide over the last 20 years. However, VCAs, differently to SOT, are life-enhancing instead of life-saving and are not routinely performed due to the risk of immune rejection and the adverse effects of immunosuppression. Over the past decade, although considerable improvements in short-term outcomes after allotransplantation have been registered, these results have not been translated into major progress in long-term allograft acce…
