Use of contrastive syllabic information in L1-L2map for Spanish pronunciation teaching
2018
The mental lexicon in french foreign language vocabulary teaching and learning : the case of the acquisition of the past perfect by Colombian L3 fren…
2016
This research presents the force that manifests the mental lexicon in teaching vocabulary in French as a foreign language. This experimental action research was developed with the experimental French group II EG from the program of modern languages at the University of Quindio in Armenia City, in Colombia. Students presented a low level in oral and written French activities. The lack of vocabulary was a recurrent element in the expression of the language. The purpose of this research is therefore focused on improving vocabulary acquisition in French through a series of learning sessions of the French’s present perfect taking into account the three pillars of the knowledge of words expressin…
Literacy and literacy practices: Plurilingual connected migrants and emerging literacy
2021
Abstract Recent migration towards Europe is characterized by the massive presence of adults whose educational paths have been interrupted and who are thus developing literacy for the first time in a new language. A literacy test elaborated at the University of Palermo, Italy, showed that, on a sample of 774 migrants, about 30 percent could not read and/or write short words. This test assessed the learners’ abilities to read and write, whether in the Roman alphabet or in other writing systems, and whether in Italian or in other languages of learners’ repertoires. These learners with emergent literacy mostly came from sub-Saharan Africa, an area characterized by diverse forms of multilinguali…
Pour une correction phonétique personnalisée en FLE ou de la remédiation "sur mesure"
2017
Herein we would like to rise up a concern of the error correction of pronunciation in French as a Foreign Language. The results of the experimental acoustic analysis (concerning the values of acoustic vowel formants F1 and F2) enabled to precisely specify the difficulties of the experiment’s participants in a field of French vocal system. In relation to the differences of vocal systems of French and Polish language we suggest custom solutions on a didactic level. Based on verbo-tonal method for phonetic integration the error correction activities had been individually elaborated for each participant.
BUCC Shared Task: Cross-Language Document Similarity
2015
We summarise the organisation and results of the first shared task aimed at detecting the most similar texts in a large multilingual collection. The dataset of the shared was based on Wikipedia dumps with interlanguage links with further filtering to ensure comparability of the paired articles. The eleven system runs we received have been evaluated using the TREC evaluation metrics. 1 Task description Parallel corpora of original texts with their translations provide the basis for multilingual NLP applications since the beginning of the 1990s. Relative scarcity of such resources led to greater attention to comparable (=less parallel) resources to mine information about possible translations…
Logit analysis in L2 research: measuring L1 and L2/Ln effects
1998
In quantitatively oriented L2 studies, we normally contrast two phenomena at a time, both at the group and individual level. However, it is generally acknowledged that what a learner produces is determined by a multitude of factors influencing the interlanguage (IL) simultaneously. When dealing with discrete, nominal categories, the numerical and causal relations between the variables involved cannot be adequately captured in an analysis where the phenomenon to be studied and the explanatory factors are subjected to a series of pairwise statistical tests. Instead of the two-variable approach, multivariate techniques should be applied, since they allow for the examination of the effects of m…

2017
Our research fits in the overall framework of French as a Foreign Language oral teaching methods and focuses will deal with the phenomenon of “foreign accent”, those marks that reveal in transparency the presence of the phonological sieve of the mother tongue, and we will focus on the pronunciation of oral vowels in French by Polish-speaking learners. A preliminary study, descriptive and contrastive, of the phonological systems of Polish and French will allow us to make assumptions about perceptible interferences in the pronunciation of spoken French which might be at the origin of noise in the psycholinguistic decoding. Acoustic analyses of speech corpuses, based on the previous hypotheses…
[tyʁlyty’ty/ləʃapopwɛ̃’ty] (Turlututu, le chapeau pointu) ou de la perception à la production de la voyelle /y/ par des apprenants polonophones
2019
Our basic assumption is that all voices are born from listening. We will focus on the pronouncing difficulties of the vowel /y/ by Polish learners of level A1/A2: a preliminary descriptive and comparative study, corroborated by an acoustic study, determined that the phoneme /y/ is often pronounced: 1) too posterior and/or too loose (thus tending towards the /u/); 2) too anterior (tending towards the /i/). However, the vowels /i/ and /u/ exist in Polish and are the closest corresponding sounds to the vowel /y/, absent in the Polish vocal system. This acoustic study is based on three phases of data recording/analysis: I) diagnostic phase—to detect the tendency of each speaker on the axis of a…
