Collocation Dictionaries: A Comparative Analysis

The importance of phraseological information in lexicographic resources is experiencing an exponential growth. This is evident in the publication in recent years of a wide variety of combinatorial or collocation dictionaries. This paper describes and compares the main monolingual collocation dictionaries for English and Spanish in regards to the following: (i) types of collocation encoded; (ii) kinds of collocational information offered; (iii) place for collocations in the micro or macrostructure of the dictionary. The objective of this analysis is to study the usefulness of these resources for translators.

This article presents a descriptive study of the incidence of censorship in the translation into Spanish of Larry McMurtry’s opera prima Horseman, Pass By. The novel was translated during Fraga Iribarne’s term of office at the Ministry of Information and Tourism (1962-1969), a period when the incidence of censorship for the Western genre was at its lowest for the dictatorship. L’article analitza diverses estratègies utilitzades per dues poetes catalanes, Maria-Mercè Marçal i Dolors Miquel, per desconstruir els discursos mitjançant els quals s’han construït els rols de gènere. Assenyalarem algunes coincidències entre les dues poetes com el fet que ambdues reformulin els estereotips femenins, que presentin un jo líric fragmentat i canviant, i que dialoguin amb les sagrades escriptures, reescrivint el parenostre i feminitzant Déu. Tant Maria-Mercè Marçal com Dolors Miquel aborden a través del discurs poètic alguns dels anhels, propostes i debats dels moviments feministes contemporanis.
