In this commentary to the M.N. v. Belgium case, the authors criticize the three fundamental arguments on which the decision of the European Court of Human Rights is founded: the approach based on ‘originalism’, the approach based on the Courts’ precedents, and the approach based on consequentialism. The legal framework governing proceedings before the ECtHR does not deal with cases in which victims of human rights violations are not de jure and/or de facto capable of lodging applications with the Court. In the effort of overcoming such a procedural lacuna, the Court has established a test that, taking into consideration the extreme vulnerability of the victims (such as minors and persons with disabilities) and the seriousness of the alleged violations, allows NGOs to apply as their ‘de facto representatives’, provided that some other conditions are fulfilled. Pragmatic and cognitive accounts of figurative language posit a difference between metaphor and metonymy in terms of underlying conceptual operations. Recently, other pragmatic uses of words have been accounted for in the Relevance Theory framework, such as approximation, described in terms of conceptual adjustment that varies in degree and direction with respect to the case of metaphor. Despite the theoretical distinctions, there is very poor experimental evidence addressing the metaphor/metonymy distinction, and none concerning approximation. Franču valoda kā avota valoda tika izvēlēta tāpēc ka Latvijā tā ir maz pētīta salīdzinājumā ar angļu valodu; turklāt mums nav franču-latviešu frazeoloģijas vārdnīcas. Darba mērķi ir: izpētīt idiomu īpatnības un apkopot tulkošanas stratēģijas darbam no franču valodas latviešu valodā. Dada la importante influencia de Marx y Engels en el análisis de la estructura social, no sorprende el notable impacto de su obra en el estudio del papel de la mujer en la familia. Sin embargo, su herencia en este ámbito sociológico ha dado lugar a interpretaciones muy polarizadas. Este artículo quiere aportar algo de luz evidenciando las contradicciones del marxismo al estudiar el papel de la mujer en la familia. Ta se odmika tako od formalističnih kot protiformalističnih pogledov, saj je v skladu z njim razlaganje hkrati »odkrivanje« nekaterih pomenskih ravni in »ustvarjanje« drugih. Pomen vsakršnih (tudi pravnih) izrazov ali stavkov je torej obravnavan kot nekaj stopnjevitega, oblikovanega na več ravneh. This article examines the process that makes proverbial utterances meaning-carrying units. The aim is to show why proverbial utterances are used and understood in everyday speech, focusing particularly on their context-connected aspects. Context is understood as a cultural matter, as a matter of an individual experience, and as offering a frame for interpreting an utterance.
