Fra i numerosi romanzi tedeschi che si imposero sulla scena editoriale dell’Italia degli anni Venti e Trenta, i Frauenromane, romanzi scritti da donne e rivolti a donne, veicolavano il modello della Neue Frau weimariana, donna lavoratrice, economicamente indipendente e sessualmente emancipata. Audiovisual texts possess characteristics that clearly differentiate audiovisual translation from both oral and written translation, and prospective screen translators are usually taught about the issues that typically arise in audiovisual translation. This article argues for the development of an interdisciplinary approach that brings together Translation Studies and Film Studies, which would prepare future audiovisual translators to work with the nature and structure of a script in mind, in addition to the study of common and diverse translational aspects. The aim of this article is to present the results of a questionnaire-based study carried out as part of the author’s Master’s Degree dissertation about Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard-of-hearing (SDH). In particular, the need to gather specific information regarding audience design will be highlighted in the paper, since this research field has long been neglected in Italy. The questions were aimed at shedding light on the needs, cultural environment and world-view of Italian SDH users, by eliciting personal data as well as subtitlerelated information. Revisiting corpus creation and analysis tools for translation tasks

Many translation scholars have proposed the use of corpora to allow professional translators to produce high quality texts which read like originals. Yet, the diffusion of this methodology has been modest, one reason being the fact that software for corpora analyses have been developed with the linguist in mind, which means that they are generally complex and cumbersome, offering many advanced features, but lacking the level of usability and the specific features that meet translators’ needs. Retrospection is one of the few research methods equally suitable for studying the processes involved in both translation and interpreting. At the first workshop on research methods in process-oriented research (Graz 2009), we presented the results of a pilot study of retrospection as a research method, published as Englund Dimitrova & Tiselius (2009). The study involved data from two groups (15 years of professional experience vs. no professional experience), each with 3+3 subjects (interpreter subjects vs. translator subjects, all with Swedish as their L1). Cada vez más los estudios de Traducción requieren una visión amplia de la Lingüística, que considere la cognición y la cultura como pilares de la comunicación. Desde esa perspectiva, en la primera parte del trabajo se van a presentar diversas consideraciones que un traductor debería tener en cuenta para trabajar con lenguas sin parentesco tipológico y que provienen de culturas tan distintas como la japonesa y la española. El segundo apartado se dedica a los problemas de la traducción literaria que provienen del lenguaje. Se analizan ejemplos de traducción de poesía.

espanolThis paper explores the most significant challenges of translating the memory of the Holocaust, focusing on the difficulties of transferring a survivor’s testimonial account to a different linguistic and cultural system. Because the concentration camp experience is inherently multicultural, and survivors have chosen to pen their ordeal in several languages, translation epitomizes a discipline that intertwines directly with the construction of universal collective memory.
