Carbenoxolone (CBX), the succinyl ester of glycyrrhetinic acid, is an inhibitor of gap junctional intercellular communication. We have tested its possible effects upon two genetic animal models of epilepsy (WAG/Rij rats and lethargic (lh/lh) mice). Systemic administration of CBX was unable to significantly affect the occurrence of absence seizures in WAG/Rij rats. Several studies focused on the macroscopic architecture of increased cardiac wall induced by exercise training. Cx36 is the first mammalian member of a novel subgroup of the connexin family, characterized by a long cytoplasmic loop, a peculiar gene structure and a preferential expression in cell types of neural origin. Abstract A major problem for the use of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) in electronic devices relates to their poor processability. Chemical modification inevitably introduces defects in the nanotube lattice, resulting in a loss of electronic properties. Stability, sub-gap current, 1/f-noise, and elemental depth profiling of annealed Al:Mn-AlOX-Al normal metal-insulator-superconducting tunnel junctions

In this paper we report a study of the effect of vacuum annealing at 400◦C on the properties of normal metal-insulator-superconductor (NIS) tunnel junctions, with manganese doped aluminium (Al:Mn) as the normal metal, aluminum as the superconductor and amorphous aluminum oxide as the tunneling barrier (Al:Mn-AlOx-Al). The annealing treatment improves the stability of the junctions, increases their tunneling resistance and does not have a negative impact on the low-temperature current-voltage characteristics. The measured 1 / f resistance noise of the junctions also changes after annealing, in the best case decreasing by over an order of magnitude. All these observations show that annealing …

Photoconductivity and photovoltaic effect in indium selenide

Transport and phototransport properties of crystalline indium monoselenide (InSe) doped with a variety of elements are reported. Measured mobilities, lifetimes, and effective diffusion lengths of photoexcited carriers are used to interpret electrical and photovoltaic properties of several different structures. These include p‐n junctions, bismuth/p‐type InSe, platinum/n‐type InSe, and indium tin oxyde (ITO)/p‐type InSe. External solar efficiencies of the best devices are between 5% and 6%. The influence on the efficiency of the various parameters is evaluated, and ways of improvement are discussed.
Superconducting tantalum nitride-based normal metal-insulator-superconductor tunnel junctions

We report the development of superconducting tantalum nitride (TaN$_{x} $) normal metal-insulator-superconductor (NIS) tunnel junctions. For the insulating barrier, we used both AlO$_{x}$ and TaO$_{x}$ (Cu-AlO$_{x}$-Al-TaN$_{x} $ and Cu-TaO$_{x}$-TaN$_{x} $), with both devices exhibiting temperature dependent current-voltage characteristics which follow the simple one-particle tunneling model. The superconducting gap follows a BCS type temperature dependence, rendering these devices suitable for sensitive thermometry and bolometry from the superconducting transition temperature $T_{\text{C}}$ of the TaN$_{x} $ film at $\sim 5$ K down to $\sim$ 0.5 K.
