Atomic Layer Deposition and Properties of Lanthanum Oxide and Lanthanum-Aluminum Oxide Films

Atomic layer deposition (ALD) of lanthanum oxide on glass and silicon substrates was examined using lanthanum silylamide, La[N(SiMe 3 ) 2 ] 3 , and water as precursors in the substrate temperature range of 150-250 °C. The effect of pulse times and precursor evaporation temperature on the growth rate and refractive index was investigated. The films remained amorphous regardless of the deposition conditions. The resulting La 2 O 3 films contained noticeable amounts of hydrogen and silicon and were chemically unstable while stored in ambient air. Lanthanum aluminum oxide films were achieved with stoichiometry close to that of LaAlO 3 at 225°C from La[N(SiMe 3 ) 2 ] 3 , Al(CH 3 ) 3 , and H 2 O.…

Anthropogenic lead distribution in soils under arable land and permanent grassland estimated by Pb isotopic compositions

International audience; The role of land use on fate of metals in soils is poorly understood. In this work, we studied the incorporation of lead in two neighboring soils with comparable pedogenesis but under long-term different agricultural management. Distributions of anthropogenic Pb were assessed from concentrations and isotopic compositions determined on bulk horizon samples, systematical 5–10 cm increment samples, and on 24-h EDTA extracts. Minor amounts of anthropogenic lead were detected until 1-m depth under permanent grassland, linked to high earthworm activity. Abstract Anthropogenic lanthanum predominantly derived from a point source has become an emerging contaminant in the Rhine River, but little is known about its ecotoxicological consequences on bivalve mollusks. A fundamental requirement of aquatic invertebrate adaptation and survival in stressful habitats is the maintenance of energy homeostasis. Impact ionisation is a standard procedure to ionise gaseous or vaporisable substances in organic mass spectrometry. In this work, a "softer" ionisation is introduced which seems to be an alternative ion source for reducing collision between substance molecules and the hot internal walls of the box. Through collision mainly found in impact ionisation sources, fragments are built especially from thermally sensitive substances falsifying the spectra. Nano photoelectron ioniser chip using LaB6 for ambient pressure trace gas detection

A detector including a nanoscaled ioniser chip that surmounts the limitation of conventional photo ionisation detectors is presented. Here, ionisable gaseous substances can be detected by photoelectrons accelerated to the ionisation potential of the incoming gaseous molecules. Thin lanthanum hexaboride (LaB"6) films deposited by pulsed laser technique (PLD) serve as the air stable photocathode material representing the basis of the ioniser chip of the detector. EXAFS study of ceria–lanthana-based TWC promoters prepared by sol–gel routes

Extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) experiments at the Ce K- and La K-edges were performed on ceria–lanthana–alumina three-way catalysts promoters prepared by sol–gel routes, in order to investigate the effect of lanthanum doping on the ceria structure. The formation of Ce1−xLaxO2−x/2 solid solution, already observed by X-ray diffraction, was confirmed by EXAFS analysis, while no experimental evidence of a Ce–Al interaction was found. In presence of cerium and aluminum, lanthanum is involved in the formation of solid solution with CeO2 and of La–Al compounds. Phase analysis and oxygen strorage capacity of ceria-lanthana-based TWC promoters prepared by sol-gel routes

Ceria–lanthana-based promoters of three-way catalysts are synthesized by two different sol–gel routes, involving nitrate precursors. The oxygen uptake ability of these compounds is measured by O2 chemisorption. The specific surface area is determined by N2 adsorption (BET). X-ray diffraction data are analyzed by Rietveld refinement, demonstrating that lanthanum forms solid solution with CeO2; its total amount in ceria depends on the competitive formation of La–Al mixed oxides and on the synthetic method. AbstractCadherin 23 is required for normal development of the sensory hair bundle, and recent evidence suggests it is a component of the tip links, filamentous structures thought to gate the hair cells' mechano-electrical transducer channels. Antibodies against unique peptide epitopes were used to study the properties of cadherin 23 and its spatio-temporal expression patterns in developing cochlear hair cells. In the rat, intra- and extracellular domain epitopes are readily detected in the developing hair bundle between E18 and P5, and become progressively restricted to the distal tip of the hair bundle. Defect interaction and local structural distortions in Mg-doped LaGaO3: A combined experimental and theoretical study

A combined experimental and theoretical study of Mg-doped LaGaO3 electrolyte was carried out, with the aim to unveil the interaction between oxygen vacancy (Vo) and perovskite B site cations. LaGaO3 (LG) and LaGa0.875Mg0.125O2.938 (LGM0125) samples were comprehensively characterized by X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and X-ray diffraction, in order to investigate short- and long-range structures of both undoped and Mg-doped materials. High resolution x-ray investigation of periodically poled lithium tantalate crystals with short periodicity

Domain engineering technology in lithium tantalate is a well studied approach for nonlinear optical applications. However, for several cases of interest, the realization of short period structures (&lt; 2 ��m) is required, which make their characterization difficult with standard techniques. In this work, we show that high resolution x-ray diffraction is a convenient approach for the characterization of such structures, allowing us to obtain in a nondestructive fashion information such as the average domain period, the domain wall inclination, and the overall structure quality.
