Developing emergent literacy in infant schools: a laboratory experience for the construction of the written language

Research, including the educational neuroscience, has highlighted the close relationship between emerging literacy and subsequent learning of reading and writing. Early verification of symbolic and linguistic skills is essential to support the development, and recovery strategies are to be prepared in case of early signs of difficulty. Towards Natural Engagement in Nonexhibitional Dramatic Role-Plays

Modern language teaching and drama have long had a tenuous relationship. Foreign/second language teaching (F/SLT) and Language for Specific Purposes (LSP) instruction often mistakenly associate drama with learning games and role-play simulations. However, these remedial activities, though useful, offer only limited opportunities for natural speech interaction. This article argues that, as a natural dialogical process of cognitive and affective involvement, nonexhibitional dramatic role-play generates authentic meaning through action and personal commitment.

Objectives. This study aims to analyse physical activity (PA) levels of high school and university students; to estimate their perception of built environment with regard to physical PA; and to assess the relation between PA and built environment. Methods. A sociological cross-sectional study with non-experimental design was applied. Vuoden 1997 työmarkkinatukiuudistuksen tavoitteena oli aktivoida alle 25-vuotiaiden ammattikouluttamattomien nuorten osallistumista työmarkkinoille ja koulutukseen. Tässä artikkelissa raportoidaan arvioita uudistuksen vaikutuksista 22–24-vuotiaiden NEET-asteeseen, joka mittaa työvoiman ulkopuolella ja työttömänä olevien osuutta ikäryhmästä. Tilastollisessa tarkastelussa hyödynnetään Tilastokeskuksen rekisteriaineistoa. This study explores how students deal with material resources in their peer interaction when working in pairs in an open-ended problem-solving task. The productive use of material resources can be expected to support successful peer work.
