Educational innovation in basic and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation in pediatrics and neonatology in a realistic context

2018

Clinical simulation: innovative educational project in basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation and advanced in pediatrics and neonatology

2019

[EN] Introduction: Nowadays, clinical simulation could be a key link in the teaching and learning of different procedures. Methodology: It is a quasi-experimental study, using three evaluation questionnaires as a method to collect the respective information to the acquisition of competences and satisfaction of the students regarding a theoretical-practical training on pediatric and neonatal CPR for students of 2nd year Nursing the University of Valencia. To this end, 17 RCP laboratories formed by 228 students were carried out. Results: The students gave a great reception to this project, giving it a score of 8.82 (SD 0.42) out of 10. The most valued item (by the students) was that in which …

Improving Communication in Risk Management of Health Information Technology Systems by means of Medical Text Simplification

2019

Health Information Technology Systems (HITS) are increasingly used to improve the quality of patient care while reducing costs. These systems have been developed in response to the changing models of care to an ongoing relationship between patient and care team, supported by the use of technology due to the increased instance of chronic disease. However, the use of HITS may increase the risk to patient safety and security. While standards can be used to address and manage these risks, significant communication problems exist between experts working in different departments. These departments operate in silos often leading to communication breakdowns. For example, risk management stakeholder…

Exploring Finnish Guidance Counselors’ Conceptions of Career Management Skills

2020

This article reports the findings from a phenomenographic investigation into guidance counselors’ conceptions of career management skills (CMS). The results show that CMS was conceived as (a) information-based knowledge, (b) personal skills development, (c) interpersonal skills development, and (d) autonomous application of skills. The differences appeared along six dimensions of variation that included awareness of CMS, emphasis, promotion of CMS, teaching practice, assessment, and attitude. The findings give us a more profound understanding of critical aspects that may have an important role in the development of individual’s CMS.

Understanding a Cartesian graph using the motion sensor

2008

This paper shows the experimental results of a didactical activity conducted using the motion sensor. This MBL-tool (Microcomputers-Based Laboratory) allows to study rectilinear motion of bodies moving in front of it. In a fixed time interval the motion sensor reveals the distance of bodies from it and transmits the measures to a computer that visualizes the data in tabular and Cartesian representations. This research corroborates several works about the use of MBL-tools, according to which the use of the motion sensor allows the students to read, understand and produce kinematics graphs. Moreover our analysis shows that the students acquire these competence respect to graphs of other type …

MIND, BRAIN AND MEDIA EDUCATION. A Research Project on Cartoons with Teachers and University Students

2017

The paper proposes a reflection on the educational dimension of cartoons from the double point of view of Media Education and Neuroeducation. Cartoons are either a means to highlight the educational potential of the fictional fruition practice and an activator memory, attention, emotion and perception which are at the basis of cognition and learning. This contribution describes an education research carried out in the A.Y. 2015/2016 with 12 in-service teachers and 198 university students attending the course of Primary Education Sciences at the University of Palermo. They both experienced a media education training methodology mediated by the use of cartoons

Case-Sensitivity of Classifiers for WSD: Complex Systems Disambiguate Tough Words Better

2007

We present a novel method for improving disambiguation accuracy by building an optimal ensemble (OE) of systems where we predict the best available system for target word using a priori case factors (e.g. amount of training per sense). We report promising results of a series of best-system prediction tests (best prediction accuracy is 0.92) and show that complex/simple systems disambiguate tough/easy words better. The method provides the following benefits: (1) higher disambiguation accuracy for virtually any base systems (current best OE yields close to 2% accuracy gain over Senseval-3 state of the art) and (2) economical way of building more effective ensembles of all types (e.g. optimal,…

The role of semantic distance in learning and generalization of novel names in typically developing and atypically developing children

2019

International audience; Children often learn the extension of novel words with a limited number of exemplars. There is evidence that the opportunity to compare stimuli is beneficial for learning and generalizing novel names in typically developing (TD) children. This is important since they are in need of well-devised learning situations. We manipulated the role of semantic distance within training stimuli and between training and test stimuli and their influence on taxonomically-based generalization. We hypothesized more difficulties for ID children especially in “larger” semantic distance cases. Our results revealed that ID children were better than the matched TD children, suggesting fun…

OPETH: Open Source Solution for Real-Time Peri-Event Time Histogram Based on Open Ephys

2019

Single cell electrophysiology remains one of the most widely used approaches of systems neuroscience. Decisions made by the experimenter during electrophysiology recording largely determine recording quality, duration of the project and value of the collected data. Therefore, online feedback aiding these decisions can lower monetary and time investment, and substantially speed up projects as well as allow novel studies otherwise not possible due to prohibitively low throughput. Real-time feedback is especially important in studies that involve optogenetic cell type identification by enabling a systematic search for neurons of interest. However, such tools are scarce and limited to costly co…
