Tristriazolotriazines with π-Conjugated Segments: Star-Shaped Fluorophors and Discotic Liquid Crystals

2012

C3-symmetrical tristriazolotriazines substituted with phenylene rings carrying lateral flexible alkoxy side chains were prepared via condensation/ring transformation of cyanuric chloride and tetrazoles. These star-shaped, planar compounds can form broad thermotropic mesophases. Due to the extensive π-conjugation, these compounds are highly emissive and the octupolar donor-acceptor electronic structure results in non-linear optical properties like solvatochromism. Brønstedt acids provoke halochromism of the absorption and of the fluorescence.

Mechanical properties and XRD of Nafion modified by 2-hydroxyethylammonium ionic liquids

2013

In this work, the Nafion 112 membrane impregnated with 2-hydroxyethylammonium carboxylate ionic liquids have been investigated. The used ionic liquids were 2-hydroxyethylammonium formate [HEA]F, acetate [HEA]A and lactate [HEA]L. Prepared composite membranes Nafion/ionic liquid are characterized by mechanical testing, such as tensile test and creep test. It is found that ionic liquids decrease elastic modulus and creep compliance, but do not have significant effect on the tensile strength. Also, composite membranes were studied by wide angle X-ray diffraction. All ionic liquids shift the peak maximum to the lower angle. In this work, only biodegradable ionic liquids were used for composite …

Properties of the Nafion membrane impregnated with hydroxyl ammonium based ionic liquids

2012

In this work, the Nafion 112 membrane impregnated with nine various hydroxyl ammonium based ionic liquids have been investigated. The used ionic liquids were combined from hydroxyl ammonium cations (2-hydroxyethylammonium/HEA, bis(2- hydroxyethyl)ammonium/BHEA, tris(2-hydroxyethyl)ammonium/THEA) and carboxylate anions (formate, acetate, lactate). The membranes are characterized by conductivity and thermal stability measurements. It was found, that almost all composites have 10 times higher ion conductivity than a pure Nafion 112 at 90 ?C in ambient environment due to the higher thermal stability. The thermal stability of Nafion membrane was increased by all studied nine ionic liquids. In th…

Refractive Indices and Deviations in Refractive Indices of Trifluoromethanesulfonate-Based Ionic Liquids in Water

2011

Refractive indices were determined for four different ionic liquid + water binary systems, from (288.15 to 338.15) K, and covering the entire composition range. The four ionic liquids used were 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate, 3-butyl-1-ethylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate, 3-butyl-1-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate, and 1-butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium trifluoromethanesulfonate, all of them being completely miscible in water. From the experimental data, deviations in refractive indices, defined on a volume fraction basis, have been calculated and fitted to an extended version of the Redlich–Kister equation. The behavior of the deviations in refractive in…

Methacrylate ester-based monolithic columns for nano-LC separation of tocopherols in vegetable oils

2010

The separation and determination of tocopherols (Ts) in vegetable oils by nano-LC chromatography with UV-vis detection using lauryl methacrylate ester-based monolithic columns has been developed. The separation of Ts was optimized in terms of mobile phase composition on the basis of the best compromise among efficiency, resolution and analysis time. Using a mobile phase composed of ACN/methanol/water, an excellent resolution between Ts was achieved within 18 min. The LODs were lower than 0.26 μg/mL, being repeatability values of retention time and peak area below 0.15 and 3.1%, respectively. The method was applied to the quantification of Ts and tocotrienols present in several vegetable oil…

(E,E,E)-4,4′-Distyrylstilbenes – Synthesis, Photophysics, Photochemistry and Phase Behavior

2008

The fluorescence quantum yields F(n) of oligo[2,5-bis(propyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene]s (1b) reach for the trimer (n = 3) in solution a maximum of 86 %, which is almost twice as high as for the monomer (n = 1) and the octamer or undecamer (n = 8, 11). The latter represent the convergence limit of 46 %. 4-Mono-, 3,4-di- or 3,4,5-trisubstituted terminal phenyl rings in the trimers 6a–f do not lead to calamitic or phasmidic liquid crystals; however, 2,3,4-trisubstitution with hexyloxy groups (6h) and even with OCH3 groups (6g) effects LC formation. Irradiation with energy-rich UV light provokes a crosslinking of the originally conjugated chains. In the case of 6c, a chemo- and stereoselective…

1987

Liquid-crystalline copolymers with covalently attached dichroic dyes were synthesized and characterized. Copolymers with high anthraquinone and trisazo-dye content were obtained by copolymerization of dye monomers with 4-cyanophenyl 4-(6-acryloyloxyhexyloxy)benzoate (1) and 6-acryloyloxyhexyl 4-(trans-4-propylcyclohexyl)benzoate (2). Particular attention is given to the influence of the dye content and the dye structure on the liquid-crystalline behavior of the copolymers.

HPLC Method for Cyst(e)ine and Methionine in Infant Formulas

1996

Cyst(e)ine and methionine were converted into cysteic acid and methionine sulfone by oxidizing with performic acid. The oxidized samples were then subjected to acid hydrolysis (6N HCl, 105-110°C/24 hr). After derivatization with phenylisothiocyanate, reverse phase HPLC separation was carried out at 48°C and with UV detection. Different gradients and pH values in the eluent were assayed to determine the best resolution. Analytical parameters, detection and quantification limits, linearity, precision and accuracy, were determined. The method was reliable and accurate for measuring cyst(e)ine and methionine in infant formulae.

Light Induced Modifications of Langmuir-Blodgett-Multilayer Assemblies Containing Amphotropic Azocopolymer

1994

Abstract Photochromic LB-multilayers of amphotropic copolymers having rod-like azobenzene moieties as side groups which exhibit thermotropic liquid crystalline behaviour in the bulk have been characterized by UV-VIS spectroscopy as well as by angular dependent and energy dispersive SAXS. Upon irradiation with UV-light the initial optical in-plane anisotropy and the vertical layered structure of LB-films can be destroyed. A new layered structure can be rebuilt on irradiation with visible light or by annealing. Using linearly polarized light for the irradiation an optical anisotropy (POA) has been induced or reversibly modified by a photoselection process.
