A Semantic Collaborative Clustering Approach Based on Confusion Matrix

2019

In this paper we discuss about a new images retrieval technique based on clustering. We argue that images don’t have an intrinsic meaning, but they can receive different interpretation. These images can complicate documents retrieval. However, users need a quick and direct access to documents. To answer this requirement, we propose a retrieval approach which use a collaborative clustering technique based on Confusion matrix.

Embodied responses to musical experience detected by human bio-feedback brain features in a geminoid augmented architecture

2018

Abstract This paper presents the conceptual framework for a study of musical experience and the associated architecture centred on Human-Humanoid Interaction (HHI). On the grounds of the theoretical and experimental literature on the biological foundation of music, the grammar of music perception and the perception and feeling of emotions in music hearing, we argue that music cognition is specific and that it is realized by a cognitive capacity for music that consists of conceptual and affective constituents. We discuss the relationship between such constituents that enables understanding, that is extracting meaning from music at the different levels of the organization of sounds that are f…

Managerial understanding and attitudes towards beyond budgeting in Ukraine

2019

In order to find out how Ukrainian practitioners understand and evaluate management control innovation - beyond budgeting - this study examines their attitudes towards this concept and meanings they attach to it in the process of learning and sensemaking. Results show how the content and meaning of novel management innovation is reinterpreted and negotiated in new institutional context. Empirical evidences support the central statement of institutional theory, namely a replacement of practice's former technical functions by institutional facts, specific symbolic meanings and collective understandings. The findings reported serve to demonstrate the gradual replacement of brute facts and empi…

Formulating a Revised Taxonomy for Modes of Listening

2012

Abstract Listening to sounds or music is not a homogeneous act of grasping meanings by hearing. Yet it is often portrayed as such, especially when the intentional stance of a listener is overlooked. This paper distinguishes listening as the action-oriented intentional activity of making sense of the world. It is proposed that the multifaceted and heterogeneous nature of ‘understanding by listening’ can be outlined in terms of distinct modes of listening. Building upon previous accounts, a revised taxonomy of nine listening modes (reflexive, kinaesthetic, connotative, causal, empathetic, functional, semantic, reduced and critical listening) is proposed and illustrated by examples. Modes refe…

Efficient Switches with QoS Support for Clusters

2007

Current interconnect standards providing hardware support for quality of service (QoS) consider up to 16 virtual channels (VCs) for this purpose. However, most implementations do not offer so many VCs because they increase the complexity of the switch and the scheduling delays. We have shown that this number of VCs can be significantly reduced, because it is enough to use two VCs for QoS purposes at each switch port. In this paper, we cover the weaknesses of that proposal and, not only we reduce VCs, but we also improve performance due to the flexibility assigning buffer memory.

It is evident that our technological society is undoubtedly linked to the diffusion of images. Authors such as Gottfried Boehm John Mitchell Hans Belting investigated the nature of the image by laying the foundations in the 1990s for the idea of a pictorial turn of a culture totally dominated by images that has now become a real technical possibility on global scale. A new statute of the image that is used to collect under the label of iconic turner inserted in the wider field of visual culture studies. The use of the term culture alongside that of visual is indicative of the breadth of the field of investigation that visual culture studies aim to seek: they do not want to limit themselves to ascertaining the predominance of the visual in contemporary society and an evaluation of its aesthetic component. but they want to proceed towards an anthropological research in which visual culture is analyzed as a particular lifestyle that expresses certain meanings and values not only in art and high culture but also in institutions and daily behavior. We will try to apply this new paradigm to photographs: instead of asking ourselves what the images mean let's try to ask ourselves what they want.

AbstractIn this article we examine first-year student teachers’ possibilities to become interested in professional issues in teacher education. We study the phenomenon of becoming interested among first-year student teachers via three different kinds of data. We analysed our data through John Dewey’s definition of interest, where a person has an interest if s/he is actively keen on some object that has personal meaning for her/him. According to our data, student teachers adopt an object of interest that teacher educators provide. Learners found it difficult to find the objects of interests by themselves, and it was exceptional for them to find personal meaning and an active state of interes…

Edusemiotics of meaningful learning experience : Revisiting Kant’s pedagogical paradox and Greimas’ semiotic square

2016

In this article we examine the educational process and learning from the edusemiotic point of view in terms of meaningful experience and meaningful action. A conception of meaningful experience is central in many branches of educational thinking, from pragmatism to existentialism. We analyze this conception from two traditional and somewhat remote perspectives, utilizing some themes of Kant’s educational philosophy on the one hand and Greimas’ semiotics on the other. Kant’s views of human formative powers – Bildung – will be described as a basic philosophy of learning experience. Kant’s theory is then critiqued from the perspective of existentialist educational philosophy. Concepts of meani…
