Computational imaging with a balanced detector
2016
Single-pixel cameras allow to obtain images in a wide range of challenging scenarios, including broad regions of the electromagnetic spectrum and through scattering media. However, there still exist several drawbacks that single-pixel architectures must address, such as acquisition speed and imaging in the presence of ambient light. In this work we introduce balanced detection in combination with simultaneous complementary illumination in a single-pixel camera. This approach enables to acquire information even when the power of the parasite signal is higher than the signal itself. Furthermore, this novel detection scheme increases both the frame rate and the signal-to-noise ratio of the sys…
«LA FISIOLOGÍA INVISIBLE»: recursos audiovisuales para la enseñanza de la fisiología en ciencias de la salud
2019
[EN] Human physiology is a basic subject during the first courses related to health sciences. Physiology as a discipline is markedly heterogeneous, since it includes anatomical, functional, molecular and biochemical notions, all widely interconnected. For this reason, it is difficult for students to integrate this knowledge, especially in the first years where the rest of related subjects (general biology, biochemistry, etc.) are taken at the same time. To facilitate this learning, the audio-visual material implies a great support when it comes to specifying abstract concepts and data obtained through complex experiments. Currently students are digital natives, and find the audiovisual tool…
Implementación del método del caso en la asignatura de Ingeniería de Procesos y Productos II del grado en Ingeniería Química
2021
[EN] In this work, the case method has been used in the subject Process and Product Engineering II, which belongs to the fourth course of the Chemical Engineering Degree of the Universitat de València. Different cases have been proposed in the classroom practices in order to students acquire the competences of the subject and improve the results of the exam. A rubric was designed to evaluate the cases which was accessible to the students. The cases were proposed in the exam, in particular, cases related to four lessons which are usually complicated to students and the results obtained for these cases were compared with the results obtained in the questions (presented in a theoretical way) o…
Utilización de Kahoot! en las clases teóricas de Anatomía Patológica: mejorando la motivación e interacción en la docencia virtual
2021
[EN] Faced with the COVID-19 pandemic situation, education has had to adapt to online teaching, trying to preserve the essential student-teacher interaction. In this project we used the interactive tool Kahoot! in the theory lectures of Special Anatomical Pathology of the Degree in Medicine, which were fully taught online. The games consisted of questions about the lesson´s contents, to strengthen learning and self-evaluation. After playing Kahoot!, results were discussed to highlight important concepts and explain doubts. The perception of the students was evaluated through an online survey. The results indicate that using Kahoot! in the theory classes has been very satisfactory and has en…
La dimensión social del lenguaje como una oportunidad educativa para la promoción del diálogo intercultural en el aula de Educación Superior
2021
[EN] For some time, it has been considered the need to approach the educational experience to the student sociocultural reality in the context of a classroom in Higher Education. This need is even more evident in the context of international exchange programs, in which the main objective is precisely to provide a space for mutual enrichment between the student's culture of origin and the host culture. In this sense, the “Grup d’Acompanyament Lingüístic” (GRUPal) works to promote the intercultural dialogue that inevitably and spontaneously takes place in and outside the classroom. The purpose of this paper is to present a didactic intervention based on inclusion and cooperative exchange as w…
Enseñar Sociología a quienes no estudian Sociología
2019
[EN] The sociological imagination (Wright Mills, 1993) is fundamental in the teaching profession. It is not possible to understand individuals’ actions of the different education agents without knowing their place in the social structure. The objective of this proposal is that the students of the Degree in Preschool Education (University of Valencia) achieve this point of view. The project starts with a flipped classroom methodology in combination with other active methodologies to end contrasting scientific knowledge with the daily teacher’s work, through the realization and analyses of interviews.
Wet Chemical Synthesis and a Combined X-ray and Mössbauer Study of the Formation of FeSb2 Nanoparticles
2011
Understanding how solids form is a challenging task, and few strategies allow for elucidation of reaction pathways that are useful for designing the synthesis of solids. Here, we report a powerful solution-mediated approach for formation of nanocrystals of the thermoelectrically promising FeSb(2) that uses activated metal nanoparticles as precursors. The small particle size of the reactants ensures minimum diffusion paths, low activation barriers, and low reaction temperatures, thereby eliminating solid-solid diffusion as the rate-limiting step in conventional bulk-scale solid-state synthesis. A time- and temperature-dependent study of formation of nanoparticular FeSb(2) by X-ray powder dif…
Generalized Dimension Distortion under Mappings of Sub-Exponentially Integrable Distortion
2010
We prove a dimension distortion estimate for mappings of sub-exponentially integrable distortion in Euclidean spaces, which is essentially sharp in the plane.
Microscopic and macroscopic 3D imaging and display by integral imaging
2011
Integral imaging is a rising 3D imaging technique that can be considered the incoherent version of holography. In integral imaging the multiperspective information of 3D scenes is stored in a 2D picture. Such picture, composed by a set of elemental images, is obtained through a 2D array of microlenses. The elemental-images set can be used for many purposes. One is the display of 3D color scenes to audiences or much more than one person. Other is the 3D display, with full parallax, in personal monitors, like the screen of a smartphone, a tablet, or the monitor used by a surgeon in an endoscopic operation. Other important types of applications are connected with the topographic reconstruction…
Extended View Angle Integral Imaging 3D Display using Smart Pseudoscopic-to-orthoscopic Conversion with Head Tracking
2016
We overview a head tracking integral imaging display using the smart pseudoscopic-to-orthoscopic conversion method. The crosstalk for a large viewing angle in integral imaging is eliminated by generating a new set of elemental images.
