NMR structure of a non-conjugatable, ADP-ribosylation associated, ubiquitin-like domain from Tetrahymena thermophila polyubiquitin locus.
2019
Abstract Background Ubiquitin-like domains (UbLs), in addition to being post-translationally conjugated to the target through the E1-E2-E3 enzymatic cascade, can be translated as a part of the protein they ought to regulate. As integral UbLs coexist with the rest of the protein, their structural properties can differ from canonical ubiquitin, depending on the protein context and how they interact with it. In this work, we investigate T.th-ubl5, a UbL present in a polyubiquitin locus of Tetrahymena thermophila, which is integral to an ADP-ribosyl transferase protein. Only one other co-occurrence of these two domains within the same protein has been reported. Methods NMR, multiple sequence al…
α-Tocopherol-induced radical scavenging activity in carbon nanotubes for thermo-oxidation resistant ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene-based na…
2014
?-Tocopherol, a natural antioxidant molecule, was physically immobilized on the outer surface of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and the resulting functionalised particles (f-CNTs) were dispersed in ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene aiming at improving its thermo-oxidation resistance. The success of the functionalization was assessed through spectroscopic and thermal analysis, and the influence of the filler on the thermo-oxidative stability of the nanocomposites was investigated through rheological analyses and infrared spectroscopy. We found that the addition of only 1 wt.% of f-CNTs brings about a surprisingly high oxidation resistance, with a five/ten-fold increase of the i…
EPPS16 - First nuclear PDFs to include LHC data
2017
We present results of our recent EPPS16 global analysis of NLO nuclear parton distribution functions (nPDFs). For the first time, dijet and heavy gauge boson production data from LHC proton-lead collisions have been included in a global fit. Especially, the CMS dijets play an important role in constraining the nuclear effects in gluon distributions. With the inclusion of also neutrino-nucleus deeply-inelastic scattering and pion-nucleus Drell-Yan data and a proper treatment of isospin-corrected data, we were able to free the flavor dependence of the valence and sea quark nuclear modifications for the first time. This gives us less biased, yet larger, flavor by flavor uncertainty estimates. …
Infrequent promoter methylation of the MGMT gene in liver metastases from uveal melanoma.
2008
Uveal melanoma is associated with a high mortality rate once metastases occur, with over >90% of metastatic patients dying within less than 1 year from metastases to the liver. The intraarterial hepatic (iah) administration of the alkylating agent fotemustine holds some promise with response rates of 36% and median survival of 15 months. Here, we investigated whether the DNA-repair-protein MGMT may be involved in the variability of response to fotemustine and temozolomide in uveal melanoma. Epigenetic inactivation of MGMT has been demonstrated to be a predictive marker for benefit from alkylating agent therapy in glioblastoma. We found a methylated MGMT promoter in 6% of liver metastases fr…
Normes et formes de l'intérêt et du désintéressement à l'heure de la marchandisation du lien communautaire
2016
Market exchanges would be evolving into a more horizontal and collaborative model. We can notice the strength of this movement within 2.0 merchant platforms. Then, we propose to explore the tension between giving and commodification through the concepts of interest and empowerment. Our main hypothesis is about a reconfiguration of online giving in a form of "disinterested interest". We will bring this issue through an exploratory study on Airbnb.
Amine functionalized ZrO2 nanoparticles as biocompatible and luminescent probes for ligand specific cellular imaging
2015
Surface functionalized ZrO2 nanoparticles show strong photoluminescence and are a versatile tool for cellular targeting due to their chemical functionality. They are highly photostable, biocompatible and amenable to coupling with bioligands (e.g. secondary goat anti-rabbit antibody (GAR) and tri-phenyl phosphine (TPP)) via carbodiimide chemistry. Antibody (GAR) functionalized ZrO2 nanoparticles were used to image the nuclear protein Sirt6, whereas triphenyl phosphonium ion (TPP) functionalized ZrO2 nanoparticles specifically targeted the mitochondria. The versatility and easiness of the ZrO2 surface modification opens up new possibilities for designing non-toxic water dispersible and photos…
Structures of single, double and triple layers of lipids adsorbed on graphene: Insights from all-atom molecular dynamics simulations
2017
Abstract Non-covalent functionalization of graphene with phospholipids is a promising technique for biosensing applications and intracellular delivery of analytical probes and drugs. However, molecular details of the self-assembly of lipids on graphene surface is still poorly understood and hard to control. There is a clear lack of understanding of why various kinds of lipid aggregates can form on graphene. In the current work, we address this question by investigating equilibrium and dynamical properties of lipid layers adsorbed on graphene in water environment and in vacuum using all-atom Molecular Dynamics simulations. It is shown that a variety of lipid aggregates can form on top of gra…
Modification of hosts' behavior by a parasite: field evidence for adaptive manipulation.
2007
9 pages; International audience; Parasites relying on trophic transmission to complete their life cycles often induce modifications of their host's behavior in ways that may increase their susceptibility to predation by final hosts. These modifications have often been interpreted as parasite adaptations, but very few studies have demonstrated that host manipulation has fitness benefits for the parasite. The aim of the present study was to address the adaptive significance of parasite manipulation by coupling observations of behavioral manipulation to estimates of trophic transmission to the definitive host in the natural environment. We show that the acanthocephalan parasite Pomphorhynchus …
Etude de la stabilité de films industriels de PLA et de leur modification de surface pour des applications en tant qu'emballage alimentaire biodégrad…
2017
Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) is a biodegradable and renewable polyester, which is considered as the most promising eco-friendly substitute of conventional plastics. It is mainly used for food packaging applications, but some drawbacks still reduce its applications. On the one hand, its low barrier performance to gases (e.g. O2 and CO2) limits its use for applications requiring low gas transfer, such as modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) or for carbonate beverage packaging. On the other hand, its natural water sensitivity, which contributes to its biodegradation, limits its use for high moisture foods with long shelf life.Other biopolymers such as wheat gluten (WG) can be considered as interesti…
