Abstract The influence of dietary heated linseed oil on the fatty acid composition of rat liver, platelet and plasma phospholipids (PL) with particular reference to the metabolism of linoleic acid (18:2 n-6) were studied. Δ6 and Δ5 desaturase activities and fatty acid composition of hepatic microsomal total lipids (TL) also were determined. Two groups of male weanling rats were fed, for 6 weeks, diets containing 10% (in weight) of a fresh linseed oil (LO group) and of a heated linseed oil (HLO group). Biocatalyzed acidolysis of soybean oil triacylglycerols to increase oleic acid content

Lipase catalyzed acidolysis of triacylglycerols (TAG) of soybean oil with oleic acid in organic solvent was studied; immobilized lipase from Rhizomucor miehei was used and the effects of reaction time, incubation temperature and enzyme load on TAG total and positional fatty acid (FA) percentage compositions were investigated. The results show that oleic acid incorporation was high after 24 and 48 h, while after 72 h a lower level of oleic acid in TAG was observed. Alternative feed resources and their effects on the quality of meat and milk from small ruminants

The present paper reviews the quality of meat and milk from sheep and goats offered alternative feeds as a replacement for concentrates. Legume seeds and pods, shrubs, local agro-industrial by-products or novel pasture species are cheap and widely available in Mediterranean countries and are suitable for sheep and goat nutrition. Many of these alternative feed resources (AFR) contain secondary compounds, such as tannins. Characterization of Sicilian Olive Genotypes by Multivariate Analysis of Leaf and Fruit Chemical and Morphological Properties

Leaf and fruit size and shape were measured and mannitol, glucose, sucrose and malic acid were quantified in leaf, bark and fruit of 25 Sicilian olive genotypes. Multivariate analysis was used to individuate groups with similar chemical composition and morphological traits suggesting potential for stress tolerance and/or oil yield and quality. Mannitol content varied greatly among genotypes and was the most abundant carbohydrate in leaf and bark, whereas glucose was the most abundant in fruit. Chronic dietary supplementation with commercial isomeric mixtures sold as dietary supplements leads to a drop in fat mass in various species. Composition influence on pulmonary delivery of rifampicin liposomes.

The effects of lipid concentration and composition on the physicochemical properties, aerosol performance and in vitro toxicity activity of several rifampicin-loaded liposomes were investigated. To this purpose, six liposome formulations containing different amounts of soy phosphatidylcholine and hydrogenated soy phosphatidylcholine, with and without cholesterol and oleic acid, were prepared and fully characterized.
