OZONE THERAPY: MECHANISMS OF ACTION, RECENT LITERATURE AND NEWLY DISCOVERED BIOCHEMICAL PATHWAYS

2018

Ozone therapy is widely used in many countries since many years. Recently, the increasing widespread of this complementary therapy has been accomplished by an increased number of basic and clinic papers published on international journals. This lecture will deal on the first approach by a pharmacological point of view in the aim to characterize the mechanisms activated at sub-cellular level by ozone when used for medical and beauty application at low graded doses. The first theory was based upon the fact that the exposure to low, non-toxic, ozone concentrations could increase the efficacy of the endogenous antioxidant system by increasing the production or the activity of some enzymes exert…

Drosophila melanogaster overexpression FAS live longer

2018

FAS and FAS ligand is critical in the control of the extension of extrinsic pathway of apoptosis. In previous studies we have performed transcriptomics peripheral blood cells from centenarians, octogenarians and young persons and we found over expression in centenarians of the FAS receptor. To confirm the role of FAS ligand in longevity across animal species, we have generated Drosophila melanogaster that over expresses this gene using the GAL4-UAS technique. The results show that flies overexpressing FAS increase maximal longevity in twelve percent and average longevity in six percent. Therefore, we confirm that FAS is related to longevity flight.

In Vitro Stimulation and Expansion of Human Tumour-Reactive CD8+ Cytotoxic T Lymphocytes by Anti-CD3/CD28/CD137 Magnetic Beads

2011

Adoptive immunotherapy with tumour-reactive CD8(+) cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) requires efficient in vitro approaches allowing the expansion of CTLs to large numbers prior infusion. Here, we investigated the antigen-independent activation and the expansion of human T cells in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and in tumour-reactive CTLs using Dynabeads coated with monoclonal antibodies to CD3 and to the costimulatory molecules CD28 and CD137 (4-1BB). T cells in PBMCs showed an increased expansion rate of 15- to 17-fold during a 2-week culture period using antibody-conjugated beads with interleukin-2 (IL-2) added versus IL-2 alone. No significant difference between CD3/CD28 beads…

Validation of the ISTH/SSC bleeding assessment tool for inherited platelet disorders: A communication from the Platelet Physiology SSC

2020

Background: Careful assessment of bleeding history is the first step in the evaluation of patients with mild/moderate bleeding disorders, and the use of a bleeding assessment tool (BAT) is strongly encouraged. Although a few studies have assessed the utility of the ISTH-BAT in patients with inherited platelet function disorders (IPFD) none of them was sufficiently large to draw conclusions and/or included appropriate control groups. Objectives: The aim of the present study was to test the utility of the ISTH-BAT in a large cohort of patients with a well-defined diagnosis of inherited platelets disorder in comparison with two parallel cohorts, one of patients with type-1 von Willebrand disea…

Medication related to pigmentation of oral mucosa.

2021

The diagnosis of oral melanotic lesions is, more often than not, challenging in the clinical practice due to the fact that there are several reasons which may cause an increase in pigmentation on localized or generalized areas. Among these, medication stands out. In this work, we have carried out a review in the reference pharma database: Micromedex® followed by a review of the scientific published literature to analyse coincidences and possible discrepancies. Our findings show that there are several prescription drugs that can cause pigmented lesions in the oral mucosa. This must be known by clinicians in order to properly diagnose pigmented lesions. We have identified a set of 21 medicame…

OP0081 Aberrant Expression of IL-22RA1 on Hematopoietic Cells as Immunologically Signature of Primary Sjogren’s Syndrome and Sjogren-Associated Non-H…

2013

Background Interleukin (IL)-22 is a potent mediator of cellular inflammatory responses that has been recently reported to play a role in the pathogenesis of primary Sjogren’s Syndrome (p-SS) (1, 2) and of T and B lymphomas. IL-22 biological activity is initiated by binding to a cell-surface complex composed of two subunits, IL-22R1 and IL-10R2 receptor chains, and further regulated by interactions with a soluble binding protein, IL-22BP. Unlike the IL-10R2, which is constitutively expressed in many human tissues, IL-22R1 is not detectable in immune cells. Objectives Aim of this study was to better characterize the role of IL-22 axis in the pathogenesis of p-SS and p-SS-associated lymphomas.…

A feasibility analysis on the use of ultrasonic multihop communications for E-health applications

2017

Rise in population aging as well as diffusion of chronic diseases and health consciousness require constant monitoring of health conditions but also lead to increasing costs for the governments. Body Area Networks represent the next frontier in health care and are envisaged as the natural choice to provide detailed and updated information on health status to prevent health risks and diseases. However if, on the one hand, a large research effort has been devoted so far to the investigation of BAN communications on and around the body, on the other hand intra-BAN communications are still a scarcely explored area because of the difficulties and risks in successfully propagating signals inside …

Peripheral ameloblastoma: A case report

2020

Background Ameloblastoma is a rare tumor which develops from odontogenic epithelium and its remnants and it occurs in the jaws. Peripheral ameloblastomas are rare and benign extraooseous ameloblastomas which effects soft tissues. This case report declares a peripheral ameloblastoma which is a rare type of ameloblastoma. Material and methods 34 year old female patient referred with a complaint of a gingival growth at right lower premolar area. A firm and granular surfaced gingival growth with the color of pink and red and having 1.5x1 cm sizes was observed at the mentioned area. With an incision from lower right second incisor tooth to lower right second molar tooth a flap from bone was made…

Gigantic peripheral osteoma of the mandible: a case report

2010

Osteomas are osteogenic lesions that have a limited growth potential. They are comprised of histologically and radiographically normal bone. Osteomas are categorized as central, peripheral or extraskeletal according to location. Clinically, peripheral osteomas (PO) are unilateral, sessile or pedunculated and have mushroom-like lesions ranging from 10 to 40 mm in diameter. Osteomas affecting the mandible are rare. In this report, we presented a gigantic peripheral mass on the left mandible in a 55-year old patient exhibiting clinical signs related to neoplasia.
