A Semantic Collaborative Clustering Approach Based on Confusion Matrix

2019

In this paper we discuss about a new images retrieval technique based on clustering. We argue that images don’t have an intrinsic meaning, but they can receive different interpretation. These images can complicate documents retrieval. However, users need a quick and direct access to documents. To answer this requirement, we propose a retrieval approach which use a collaborative clustering technique based on Confusion matrix.

Music Listening and Communication Skills Improvement for Children up to Three Years

2015

Theoretical part of paper will be devoted to an important problem at an early age the child’s development i.e. listening skills and communication skills development for children up to three years. The aim of the report – explored music listening and communication skills development opportunities for children up to three years. The theoretical part will be based on scientific research. The empirical part will be offered and described in music lessons, which will improve the communication skills of children up to three years. The paper will be used qualitative method research approach which will consist of a children’s activity monitoring, observation describe their interpretation of the resu…

2D:4D Is Negatively Associated to Aggressive Dominance in Men: A Response to Voracek (2013)

2013

We do not agree with the interpretation and evaluation of our article by Voracek. We feel that our results and our interpretation of the results are supported by our data analyses and do add to the current understanding of the relationship between 2D:4D and personality. We feel confident we can address many, if not all, of Voracek's criticisms. However, we fully agree that 2D:4D research would benefit from more replication and from the use of larger sample sizes. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Language: en

Cómo abordar el desarrollo de una competencia transversal compleja mediante el alineamiento constructivo

2019

[EN] We present a model based on activities for the acquisition of essential competences of the scientific-technical qualifications, developed throughout the course of Cell Biology of the 1st year of the Degree in Biotechnology. For example, the search and analysis of bibliographic information and the design and interpretation of experiments are closely related and very important competences in the training of the biotechnologist, however they are not well contemplated in a specific way in the study plans. The proposed activities, designed under the premises of the constructive alignment of Biggs and Tang, develop these competences jointly and within the framework of a single subject.

On the analysis of viability data: an example with Drosophila.

1990

Larval competition experiments involving two wild type and eight mutant strains of Drosophila melanogaster have been carried out following the substitution procedure proposed by Mather and Caligari (1981). Our main goal has been to compare the competitive abilities of two phenotypically indistinguishable strains (wild and Oregon-R) by means of their responses with eight different mutants. Prior to the analyses of viability data, we have studied the normalizing effect of several transformations in order to determine which was best suited for the analyses. The differences found among the five transformations tested and the untransformed data were not very great. The folded power transformatio…

Intangibles - enhancing access to cities cultural heritage through interpretation

2013

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to utilise commodification for the conservation and promotion of cultural heritage in cities by developing interpretative strategies, specifically enabling access to intangible cultural heritage through its tangible parts.Design/methodology/approachIn total, three case studies were conducted in the cities of Amsterdam, Genoa and Leipzig, through a workshop cycle with destination and local tourism stakeholders and citizen representatives, to develop interpretative strategies for the cities.FindingsThe paper identifies tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the three cities, and integrates them into stories and outlines the development of an interpret…

3D integral imaging display by smart pseudoscopic-to-orthoscopic conversion (SPOC).

2010

Previously, we reported a digital technique for formation of real, non-distorted, orthoscopic integral images by direct pickup. However the technique was constrained to the case of symmetric image capture and display systems. Here, we report a more general algorithm which allows the pseudoscopic to orthoscopic transformation with full control over the display parameters so that one can generate a set of synthetic elemental images that suits the characteristics of the Integral-Imaging monitor and permits control over the depth and size of the reconstructed 3D scene.

Latvian Translation Scene at the Turn of the 19th and 20th Century

2020

The paper looks at the Latvian translation scene at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. It is a continuation of the study of translation history in Latvia reflected in previous issues of Vertimo studijos (vol. 7, 8, 11). These decades are marked by a huge growth of translation, especially in periodicals. German was gradually losing its dominant position as a source and intermediate language, Russian was advancing, so was also the scope of other languages. In contrast to previous periods there was a particular interest in the quality of the originals and modernity. This period also saw a change of generations among translators, and women became visible in translation sc…

The silent work of speech. On an Enactive Grammar’s Insight

2019

Many research programs have been worked out in recent years in order to account for an apparently trivial aspect of the human language activity. We refer to the fact that every speaker hears the sound of his own words. Our paper aims to embed this empirical insight in the theoretical framework of the so-called enactive grammar. This choice is justified by the fact that the enactive grammar introduced a formal distinction which allows to provide a clear formulation of the jakobsonian assert. In order to highlight this point, the paper will be subdivided into seven sections. The first section will be devoted to the experience of the hearing oneself speak. The second one will examine this expe…

Internal Hernia Masquerading As Necrotizing Enterocolitis

2017

In extremely preterm infants, acute abdominal emergencies are fortunately less common with improving care. Spontaneous intestinal perforation and necrotizing enterocolitis are conditions where emergency surgery is most often needed. Conservative medical management and placement of temporary drain are often used in the initial management. Internal hernia (IH) is an uncommon cause of bowel obstruction in neonates, is difficult to diagnose and unfortunately are found only at autopsy. The presentation in preterm infants, distinction between these conditions, and the need for early diagnosis of IH are discussed.
