Quantum groups and deformed special relativity

The structure and properties of possible $q$-Minkowski spaces is discussed, and the corresponding non-commutative differential calculi are developed in detail and compared with already existing proposals. This is done by stressing its covariance properties as described by appropriate reflection equations. Some isomorphisms among the space-time and derivative algebras are demonstrated, and their representations are described briefly. Finally, some physical consequences and open problems are discussed.

Critical reflections on asymptotically safe gravity

Asymptotic safety is a theoretical proposal for the ultraviolet completion of quantum field theories, in particular for quantum gravity. Significant progress on this program has led to a first characterization of the Reuter fixed point. Further advancement in our understanding of the nature of quantum spacetime requires addressing a number of open questions and challenges. Here, we aim at providing a critical reflection on the state of the art in the asymptotic safety program, specifying and elaborating on open questions of both technical and conceptual nature. Spin Chains with Non-Diagonal Boundaries and Trigonometric SOS Model with Reflecting End

In this paper we consider two a priori very different problems: construction of the eigenstates of the spin chains with non parallel boundary magnetic fields and computation of the partition function for the trigonometric solid-on-solid (SOS) model with one reflecting end and domain wall boundary conditions. We show that these two problems are related through a gauge transformation (so-called vertex-face transformation) and can be solved using the same dynamical reflection algebras.

SOV approach for integrable quantum models associated to general representations on spin-1/2 chains of the 8-vertex reflection algebra

The analysis of the transfer matrices associated to the most general representations of the 8-vertex reflection algebra on spin-1/2 chains is here implemented by introducing a quantum separation of variables (SOV) method which generalizes to these integrable quantum models the method first introduced by Sklyanin. Pd nanoparticles formation inside porous polymeric scaffolds followed by in situ XANES/SAXS

International audience; Simultaneous time-resolved SAXS and XANES techniques were employed to follow in situ the formation of Pd nanoparticles from palladium acetate precursor in two porous polymeric supports: polystyrene (PS) and poly(4-vinyl-pyridine) (P4VP). In this study we have investigated the effect of the use of different reducing agents (H-2 and CO) from the gas phase. These results, in conjunction with data obtained by diffuse reflectance IR (DRIFT) spectroscopy and TEM measurements, allowed us to unravel the different roles played by gaseous H-2 and CO in the formation of the Pd nanoparticles for both PS and P4VP hosting scaffolds

Optical properties of the low-molecular amorphous azochromophores and their application in holography

The films based on the low-molecular amorphous azochromophore 2-(3-(4-((4- (Ethyl(2-(trityloxy)ethyl)amino)phenyl)diazenyl)styryl)-5,5-dimethylcyclohex-2-enylidene) malononitrile (IWK-2M) were prepared. The optical properties of the material, such as transmittance and reflection spectra of the film, sensitivity to polarization holographic recording by two wavelengths (405 and 532 nm) were studied. Progress in the development of Virtual Reality (VR) is faster than has been forecast, which makes deep reflection on its potential uses and abuses absolutely necessary. The current article focuses on the analysis of some of the applications and implications of VR on psychopathology. Correlating Schiff Moments in the Light Actinides with Octupole Moments

We show that the measured intrinsic octupole moments of $^{220}$Rn, $^{224}$Ra, and $^{226}$Ra constrain the intrinsic Schiff moments of $^{225}$Ra$^{221}$Rn, $^{223}$Rn, $^{223}$Fr, $^{225}$Ra, and $^{229}$Pa. The result is a dramatically reduced uncertainty in intrinsic Schiff moments. Direct measurements of octupole moments in odd nuclei will reduce the uncertainty even more. The only significant source of nuclear-physics error in the laboratory Schiff moments will then be the intrinsic matrix elements of the time-reversal non-invariant interaction produced by CP-violating fundamental physics. Analysis of image formation with a photon scanning tunneling microscope

International audience; The photon scanning tunneling microscope (PSTM) is based on the frustration of a total internal reflected beam by the end of an optical fiber. Until now it has been used to obtain topographic information, generally for smooth samples. We report theoretical as well as experimental results on the observation of a step on a quartz substrate with the PSTM. These results demonstrate the effects on image formation of the distance between the fiber tip and the sample surface, the orientation of the incident beam with respect to the step, the polarization, and the coherence of the light. A passive solid sensor for in-situ colorimetric estimation of the presence of ketamine in illicit drug samples

Abstract A colorimetric sensor has been developed for the presumptive detection of ketamine in illicit drug samples. The sensor has been prepared by immobilized the reagent Co(SCN) 2 into polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). When exposed to solutions of ketamine at a basic pH, the sensor color changes from brown to blue-purple due to the diffusion of the analyte molecules to the polymeric matrix and subsequent interaction with the reagent particles. The sensor enables the visual identification of amounts of drug as low as 30 μg in a few minutes.
