Specular reflection of spin-polarized electrons from the W(001) spin-filter crystal in a large range of scattering energies and angles

2015

Extending previous work on the imaging spin-filter technique based on electron diffraction from W(001) in the specular (00)-LEED (low-energy electron diffraction) spot, we studied the scattering-energy and angle-of-incidence landscape of spin sensitivity $S$ and reflectivity ${I/I}_{0}$. The setup includes a spin-polarized GaAs electron source and a rotatable delay-line detector for spatially resolving detection. We measured the intensity and spin asymmetry of the specularly reflected beam for energies between 14 and 37 eV and angles of incidence between ${30}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}$ and ${60}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}$. Resulting energy-angular landscapes show rather good agreement with theory [r…

Unusual optical properties of the dense nonequilibrium plasmas

2005

A concise overview of new optical properties of dense nonequilibrium plasma formed on the solid state target boundary is given. In this chapter, we describe phenomena such as the third harmonic generation in the skin layer, collisionless electron heating in the high frequency skin-effect regime, absorption, and reflection and transmission of radiation by a plasma with anisotropic electron distribution.

Asymmetric Conductivity of Strongly Correlated Compounds

2014

In this chapter, we show that the FC solutions for distribution function \(n_0(\mathbf{p})\) generate NFL behavior, and violate the particle-hole symmetry inherent in LFL. This, in turn, yields dramatic changes in transport properties of HF metals, particularly, the differential conductivity becomes asymmetric. As it is demonstrated in Sect. 3.1, Fermi quasiparticles can behave as Bose one. Such a state is viewed as possessing the supersymmetry (SUSY) that interchanges bosons and fermions eliminating the difference between them. In the case of asymmetrical conductivity it is the emerging SUSY that violates the time invariance symmetry. Thus, restoring one important symmetry, the FC state vi…

A self-consistent approach to the reflection component in 4U 1705-44

2010

High-resolution spectroscopy has recently revealed in many neutron-star Low-Mass X-ray binaries that the shape of the broad iron line observed in the 6.4-6.97 keV range is consistently well fitted by a relativistically smeared line profile. We show here spectral fitting results using a newly developed self-consistent reflection model on XMM-Newton data of the LMXB 4U 1705-44 during a period when the source was in a bright soft state. This reflection model adopts a blackbody prescription for the shape of the impinging radiation field, that we physically associate with the boundary layer emission. © 2010 American Institute of Physics.

Axially deformed solution of the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov equations using the transformed harmonic oscillator basis (II) HFBTHO v2.00d: a new v…

2012

We describe the new version 2.00d of the code HFBTHO that solves the nuclear Skyrme Hartree-Fock (HF) or Skyrme Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov (HFB) problem by using the cylindrical transformed deformed harmonic-oscillator basis. In the new version, we have implemented the following features: (i) the modified Broyden method for non-linear problems, (ii) optional breaking of reflection symmetry, (iii) calculation of axial multipole moments, (iv) finite temperature formalism for the HFB method, (v) linear constraint method based on the approximation of the Random Phase Approximation (RPA) matrix for multi-constraint calculations, (vi) blocking of quasi-particles in the Equal Filling Approximation (E…

Quantification of phenolic acids by partial least squares Fourier-transform infrared (PLS-FTIR) in extracts of medicinal plants.

2020

Introduction Phenolic compounds are ubiquitous compounds found in all plants as their secondary metabolites. Phenols are becoming increasingly important particularly because of their beneficial effects on health. Objective To provide a faithful calibration model for the simultaneous determination and quantification of phenolic acids, as salicylic, vanillic, p-hydroxybenzoic acids, eugenol and thymol in different extracts of medicinal plants, a comparative study was made between two methods of infrared measurements based on attenuated total reflectance (ATR) and transmission. Methods Characteristic absorbance peak heights of mid-infrared spectra of individual phenolic acids were measured for…

Mapováni spinů povrchových a bulkových Rashba stavů v tenkých vrstvách feroelektrického α-GeTe(111)

2015

Rozbíjení inverzní symetrie ve fereeleRashba efekt; Fotoemisse; DFTktrickém polovodiči způsobuje děleni stavů, tzv Rashba efekt. V tomto článku ukazujeme kompletně mapování spinové polarizace těchto Rashba stavů za pomoci spinovo rozlišené fotoemisse. The breaking of bulk inversion symmetry in ferroelectric semiconductors causes a Rashba-type spin splitting of electronic bulk bands. This is shown by a comprehensive mapping of the spin polarization of the electronic bands in ferroelectric α- GeTe(111) films using a time-of-flight momentum microscope equipped with an imaging spin filter that enables a simultaneous measurement of more than 10 000 data points. The experiment reveals an opposite…

A Critical Reflection on Relationship between ICT and Change Management in Enhancing Teaching and Learning Performances

2019

Abstract Numerous studies have pointed out direct positive impacts of Information Communication Technology (ICT) on education quality. From just tool, ICT is being viewed in itself as quality or as catalyst for quality improvement. These findings have led universities worldwide to adopt ICT regardless of uncertainties. Consequently, not all of them succeeded. Proofs from cases around the world show that ICT produces positive impact only in the environment that fits. Such environment is fostered by an effective change management approach. The main aim of this paper is therefore to present the symbiotic relationship between ICT and change management, zeroing on how changes are managed to atta…
