Scotch broom (Cytisus scoparius (L.) Link, Fabaceae), an evergreen shrub native to Europe, is cultivated as a garden plant. In 2003 and 2004, potted plants with symptoms of leaf chlorosis, defoliation, and eventual wilt and associated with root and collar rot were observed in ornamental nurseries in Sicily. As much as 10% of plants were affected in a single nursery. Two species of Phytophthora were consistently isolated alone or together from the same pot with the selective medium of Masago et al. (2). The genomes of the type strains of Roseivivax atlanticus and Roseivivax marinus ( Rhodobacteraceae , Alphaproteobacteria ), were analysed to determine their respective Average Nucleotide Identity (ANI) and in silico DNA–DNA hybridization (DDH) values. These species were proposed and effectively published relatively closely in time (February and August 2014, respectively) and so not taking account of the other. The intergenomic relatedness between both type strains, 97.0–97.4 % ANI and 82.8 % in silico DDH, confirm that they represent members of the same genomic species. Lactobacillus aquaticus sp. nov., isolated from a Korean freshwater pond.

A Lactobacillus strain, IMCC1736T, was isolated recently from a Korean freshwater pond following an extensive study of the microbial community in this ecosystem. Its 16S rRNA gene was sequenced and phylogenetic analysis placed this strain within the Lactobacillus salivarius group, closely related to Lactobacillus satsumensis NRIC 0604T, with 97.9% sequence similarity. In the present work, the taxonomic status of strain IMCC1736T has been re-evaluated. Streptococcus lactarius sp. nov., isolated from breast milk of healthy women.

Three strains of a hitherto-unknown, Gram-stain-positive coccus were recovered from the milk of three non-related healthy women. The isolates shared 99% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with sequences from uncultured members of the Lactobacillales and Streptococcus. The closest sequence corresponding to a defined species was that of Streptococcus peroris GTC 848T, with a similarity of 98%. A partial sequence (488 bp) of the tuf gene also showed 97% similarity with that of S. peroris CCUG 39814T. The Kentish Plover Charadrius alexandrinus is a sensitive species whose national breeding population has been undergoing a sharp decrease, up to 50%, in 2010 compared to the previous decade. Due to the lack of updated data and fragmented knowledge about its current status and distribution in Sicily, a specific and accurate monitoring of this species was carried out during the years 2018 and 2019.
