A total of 687 Finnish adolescents aged 15–16 were surveyed of whom 654 also participated at the second measurement point one year later, and 497 three years later. Differences in career goal-related social ties were found according to gender, GPA, family structure, and SES. Shining castles and humans of metal/floral appearance ? metaphorical language in the Palaiologan romances Kallimachos and Velthandros

2019

About eight centuries after Heliodorus, the Greek novel resurfaced in the twelfth century, in Komnenian Byzantium, and again two centuries later under the Palaiologan dynasty. This latter literary revival was due to the political stability of the imperial Byzantine government, which promoted cultural production, rhetorical education, and patronage networks. Kallimachos and Velthandros, two Palaiologan romances presented as court literature, combine ancient and medieval tropes with rhetorical artistry to blur the boundaries between the artificial and the natural. Castles and objects made of precious metals thus resemble living, natural spaces, and human characters are portrayed in metallurgi…

Il rigo musicale in fondo alla 'Bataille d'Annezin' e i dispositivi di chiusura della lassa epica

2015

The discovery, made by E. Langlois in 1910, of a notated musical staff at the end of a little-known parodic laisse probably written within the 13th century by an otherwise unknown Thomas de Bailleul (MS London, BL, Royal 20 A XVII) immediately raised the interest of medieval musicologists, who have debated its function and interpretation until recent times, whereas romance philologists haven’t payed due attention to this intriguing and unique musical evidence, undoubtedly related to an Old French chanson de geste. In this paper I shall defend G. Schläger’s forgotten hypothesis that the musical staff could well represent a vocal-ized ‘short line’ (petit vers), arguing that this question shou…

Schuchardt, Hugo (1842–1927)

2006

H. Schuchardt's doctoral thesis submitted to Bonn University in 1862 became the basis of the famous three volumes on the vocalism of Vulgar Latin (1866–1868), building a bridge between Classical and Romance Philology. He became a full professor of Romance Philology in Halle, Central Germany, and thereafter in Graz, Austria (1876–1900). In his 770 publications, Schuchardt dealt with the classification of Romance dialects, with etymologies and the cultural background of words discussed, and with descriptions of Portuguese-, French-, Spanish-, English- and Dutch-based creole languages so that Schuchardt became the founder of creolistics. Language mixture in Europe, Africa and Asia was describe…

Adolescent Sexual and Emotional Development: The Role of Romantic Relationships

2015

Abstract The physiological processes occurring during adolescence, often so abrupt, threaten the permanence of the previously constructed sense of identity, questioning the patterns and representations that had governed the relations of the teenager with his body and with his relational systems. Although puberty is not only reduced to sexual transformations, definitions centered mainly on this aspect can be found in the literature. In fact, pubertal development is the acquisition disclosure index of adult reproductive capacity. Objective Explore the process of increasing involvement of the adolescent in an emotional and sexual relationship with a partner. Methodology: It will try to underst…
