Family burden, social support and community health in caregivers of people with serious mental disorder
2018
An Enriched European Eel Transcriptome Sheds Light upon Host-Pathogen Interactions with Vibrio vulnificus.
2015
Infectious diseases are one of the principal bottlenecks for the European eel recovery. The aim of this study was to develop a new molecular tool to be used in host-pathogen interaction experiments in the eel. To this end, we first stimulated adult eels with different pathogen- associated molecular patterns (PAMPs), extracted RNA from the immune-related tissues and sequenced the transcriptome. We obtained more than 2x106 reads that were assembled and annotated into 45,067 new descriptions with a notable representation of novel transcripts related with pathogen recognition, signal transduction and the immune response. Then, we designed a DNA-microarray that was used to analyze the early immun…
Giuliano e i nova negotia: sulla tutela dei c.d. contratti innominati tra l’età traianea e l’età dei Severi
2021
The study deals with Julian's thought on the protection of innominate contracts. In this regard, the idea is widespread that the jurist was opposed to an enlargement of the contractual sphere beyond the figures recognized at the edictal level. This conviction is based primarily on Ulp. 4 ad ed. D. 2.14.7.2, well-known testimony in which Julian is reprimanded by Maurician and Ulpian for having granted an action in factum about a case of eviction, for which, according to both jurists his successors, he could have acted with the actio civilis incerti. The study disputes this idea and comes to the conclusion rather than to determine Julian’s solution of Ulp. 4 ad ed. it was a functional (or eco…
Making Sense of Apparent Chaos: Recontextualising the So-Called > (B 24.5)

Il saggio analizza una serie di glosse relative ai nomi dei venti e ai nomi dei punti cardinali che compaiono nei manoscritti anglosassoni, studiandone relazioni e trasmissione.
Establishment of a quantitative RT-pCR for detection of vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 transcripts in endothelial cells after stimulation with adv…
1998
Advanced glycation endproducts (AGE) are supposed to increase endothelial expression of adhesion molecules like vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) by inducing an intracellular stress with subsequent activation of nuclear transcription factor NF-kappa-B. Quantitative analysis of VCAM-1-transcription has not been demonstrated concerning this topic. Thus, the aim of this study was to establish quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assays using a spacer gene in order to measure the amounts of specific mRNA for VCAM-1 in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) which were stimulated with AGE-albumin (AGE-BSA). A recombinant RNA-standard was synthesiz…
The influence of advanced glycation endproducts (AGE) on the expression of human endothelial adhesion molecules.
1998
Advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs) possibly play a dominant role in the pathogenesis of macrovascular disease in diabetes. Recent studies could demonstrate that glycated albumin (AGE-BSA) was able to stimulate vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM.1) on endothelial cells. The aim of this study was to find out if AGE-BSA was not only able to enhance the expression of vascular cell adhesion molecule-1, but also of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) and E-Selectin on human endothelial cells. Stimulation of endothelial cells with AGE-BSA for six hours predominantly increased the expression of VCAM-1, but ICAM-1 and E-Selectin were also upregulated as shown by immunoilluminometric a…
Enhanced enzymatic activity of glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase from the cryophilic Saccharomyces kudriavzevii
2014
During the evolution of the different species classified within the Saccharomyces genus, each one has adapted to live in different environments. One of the most important parameters that have influenced the evolution of Saccharomyces species is the temperature. Here we have focused on the study of the ability of certain species as Saccharomyces kudriavzevii to grow at low temperatures, in contrast to Saccharomyces cerevisiae. We observed that S. kudriavzevii strains isolated from several regions are able to synthesize higher amounts of glycerol, a molecule that has been shown to accumulate in response to freeze and cold stress. To explain this observation at the molecular level we studied t…
Rapid adaptation of signaling networks in the fungal pathogen Magnaporthe oryzae
2019
Abstract Background One fundamental question in biology is how the evolution of eukaryotic signaling networks has taken place. “Loss of function” (lof) mutants from components of the high osmolarity glycerol (HOG) signaling pathway in the filamentous fungus Magnaporthe oryzae are viable, but impaired in osmoregulation. Results After long-term cultivation upon high osmolarity, stable individuals with reestablished osmoregulation capacity arise independently from each of the mutants with inactivated HOG pathway. This phenomenon is extremely reproducible and occurs only in osmosensitive mutants related to the HOG pathway – not in other osmosensitive Magnaporthe mutants. The major compatible so…
