Description of a Simple, Specific, and Sensitive Test for the Detection of Detergent-Solubilized C3b Receptor

1981

Abstract The C3b receptor was isolated from detergent-solubilized human erythrocyte membranes by a previously described technique (1). The receptor glycoprotein was shown to enhance EAC14oxy23b rosette formation with Raji lymphoblastoid cells. This provided a specific and sensitive test to detect the solubilized C3b receptor either in crude or highly purified form. The property of the C3b receptor tested by this assay appears to be analogous to properties of β1H.

Pharmakologisch-aktive polymere, 21. Orientierende Untersuchungen zur körperverteilung und Ausscheidung von poly[2-(methylsulfinyl)ethylacrylat]en be…

1980

Poly[2-(methylsulfinyl)ethyl acrylate] (1) was synthesized as well as derivatives 14C-labelled in side groups (6) or 14C-labelled in the main chain (11). Polymer 11 with the 14C-labelled main chain was fractionated by precipitation. The η-M-relation determined by measurements of unlabelled polymers in the ultracentrifuge for comparison was used to establish the viscosimetrically determined molecular weights of the labelled fractions. After intravenous application of aqueous solutions of the polymer in rats the excretion rate up to 72 h after treatment was ascertained to ca. 50%; the concentration in the blood serum was found to be strikingly high. A tendency to reinforced storage in organs …

Effect of Drying Condition on the Quality of Dry Late Peaches of Leonforte

2015

The Late Peach of Leonforte [Prunus persica (L.) Batsch] grown in Southern Italy matures in September and October and as late as November. Fruits are wrapped in paper bags to protect them from parasites and are harvested only when fully ripe. Protected inside the bags, they ripen late and take on a bright yellow colour with red streaks. Highly aromatic, the peach has yellow, firm flesh that is high in soluble solids and has a distinctive, slightly caramelized flavour. The aim of this work was to deter¬mine the best method of drying peach as a means of conserving the fruit after harvest due to its very limited shelf-life. Drying processes were carried out in a pilot plant utilising differen…

Peptide–Membrane Interactions Monitored by Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging: A Study Case of Transportan 10

2021

The interest on detailed analysis of peptide-membrane interactions is of great interest in both fundamental and applied sciences as these may relate to both functional and pathogenic events. Such interactions are highly dynamic and spatially heterogeneous, making the investigation of the associated phenomena highly complex. The specific properties of membranes and peptide structural details, together with environmental conditions, may determine different events at the membrane interface, which will drive the fate of the peptide-membrane system. Here, we use an experimental approach based on the combination of spectroscopy and fluorescence microscopy methods to characterize the interactions …

Monte Carlo simulations are presented for binary (AB) symmetric polymer mixtures (chain lengths NANBN) for the case that an attractive interaction ϵ exists between monomers of the same kind, and the limiting case that one species (B) is very diluted. It is shown that with increasing interaction strength ϵ/(kB · T), T being the absolute temperature, the minority chains collapse to a very dense configuration, while the majority chains stay nearly Gaussian. Both chain radii, structure factors and numbers of nearest neighbour contacts are discussed.

Multifunctional polymer-derivatized γ-Fe2O3 nanocrystals as a methodology for the biomagnetic separation of recombinant His-tagged proteins

2008

Abstract Multifunctional polymer-derivatized superparamagnetic iron oxide (γ-Fe2O3) nanoparticles were prepared for biomagnetic separation of histidine-tagged recombinant proteins building up a faster and efficient method for protein separation by making use of their intrinsic magnetic properties. Using polymer bound γ-Fe2O3 nanocrystals, a 6× histidine-tagged recombinant protein (silicatein) with a molecular weight of 24 kDa has been isolated and purified. The supermagnetic iron oxide nanocrystals were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution TEM (HRTEM), SQUID and Mossbauer and the polymer functionalization of the γ-Fe2O3 nanocrystals was monitored by UV–vi…

Solution properties of polyelectrolytes. II. Comparison of the effects of both polyion and eluent salt concentrations on the calibrations in aqueous …

1987

The elution behaviour of charged water-soluble polymers (sodium polystyrene sulphonate) in both salt-free and NaCl-containing aqueous mobile phases has been investigated by size-exclusion chromatography. A comparative analysis has been established between the results as a function of polyion and salt concentrations, which demonstrates that the chromatographic behaviour is similar in both cases. The variation of the slopes of the different concentration-dependent calibration curves is discussed in terms of polyelectrolyte conformational changes. Finally, a semi-empirical model has been developed to predict the dependence of the elution volume in either polyion or salt concentration, and its …

A versatile viscometric method for the study of dissolved proteins, exemplified for casein micelles in ammoniacal solutions

2017

Abstract Viscosities of casein solutions were measured within the dilute range in ammoniacal water and in saline solvents containing different amounts and different kinds of salt. All these data are modeled quantitatively by means of an approach accounting for the polyelectrolyte character of casein micelles. Two parameters are required: The intrinsic viscosity [ η ] and a viscometric interaction parameter β . The behavior of casein is compared with that of chain-like polyelectrolytes. For both polymers one observes a pronounced reduction of [ η ] with increasing salt concentration. However, for casein the decline of [ η ] is less pronounced by more than an order of magnitude and depends on…

Highly fluorescent and photostable organic- and water-soluble CdSe/ZnS core-shell quantum dots capped with thiols

2012

Highly fluorescent organic- and water-soluble CdSe/ZnS core-shell quantum dots (QDs) with thiol ligands chemisorbed on the QD surface were synthesized by the replacement of amine ligands by alkyl thiols under very mild conditions. The QDs exhibited an even greater photostability than the initial core-shell amine capped QDs.
