The effect of lithium tert-butoxide (t-BuOLi) on rate constants and equilibrium constants of reactions involved in the initial stage of the anionic polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) in tetrahydrofuran, initiated by methyl α-lithioisobutyrate (P) was investigated at 23 ± 3°C. Addition of t-BuOLi decreases the rate constants of initiation and propagation by one order of magnitude; the rate constants of termination by cyclization decrease by two orders of magnitude. This leads to an overall tenfold higher preference of propagation with respect to termination and explains the favourable effect of alkoxide in the polymerization reported earlier. Within experimental error, the equilibri…
ChemInform Abstract: 1,4-Regioselective Iodofunctionalizations of 1,3-Butadiene.
1989
1,3-Butadiene (I) is treated with a iodonium tetrafluoroborate in the presence of HBF4 and aqueous acetonitrile (II) or benzene (IV), yielding the 1,4-adducts (III) or (V).

Intrinsic viscosities, [η], second virial coefficients, A2, and interaction potentials, g12, for the ternary systems alcohol (1)/3-heptanone (2)/poly(1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) (3), with the unbranched alcohols methanol, ethanol and 1-propanol, were determined at 25°C. Taking into account the dependence of the viscometric interaction parameter, B, with the molecular weight of the polymer, the unperturbed dimensions parameter, KΘ, of the polymer was unambiguously obtained. Relationships between ΔKΘ (defined as ΔKΘ = ΔK − KΘ) and excess Gibbs energies, GE, and between excess viscosity, Δ[η], and GE allow to obtain equations relating A2 to ΔKΘ or to Δ[η]. Therefore, A2 can be evaluated from experi…
Measurements of the heat of solution o…
Solid Solutions in the Xanthone–Thioxanthone Binary System: How Well Are Similar Molecules Discriminated in the Solid State?
2020
The binary system of xanthone–thioxanthone has been explored, showing that two solid solutions (formed based on xanthone and thioxanthone parent structures, respectively) exist for this system. One...
Introduction of a luminescent sensor for tracking trace levels of hydrazine in insect pollinated cropland flowers
2021
In recent years the excessive use of hydazine containing chemical pesticides and insecticides in farming practices is well pronounced, which directly or indirectly impart a great threat towards the total environment. Considering the above fact we are motivated to introduce a new, efficient and simple chemodosimeter (NCD) based on a carbazole-naphthalimide framework to recognize and estimate the mutagenic hydrazine within several affected cropland flowers. Probe NCD can detect hydrazine in a nanomolar range (65 nM or 2 ppb) in the presence of other metal ions, anions and amines, which gives it not only great potential but also makes it selective and sensitive. The sensing mechanism is confir…
Special Calixarenes by Directed Syntheses
1997
The synthesis of special calixarenes and calixarene-like macrocyclic compounds via stepwise procedures and fragment condensation is reviewed. Among the compounds available are exo- and endo-calixarenes consisting of different phenolic units, having bridges other than methylene or showing inherent chirality (Cn-symmetry). Macrobi- and -tricyclic molecules such as bridged calixarenes, double calixarenes, bicyclocalixarenes and annelated calixarenes are also described. Single crystal X-ray structures are reported for several compounds. Some properties like conformational barriers, pKa values or the ability to complex metal ions are discussed, showing the potential of these compounds which may …
Resolution, Crystal Structure, and Histamine-like Activity of 4-[1-(2-Aminoethylthio)ethyl]-5-methylimidazole The resolution of racemic 4-[1-(2-aminoethylthio)ethyl]-5-methylimidazole (1) using optically active Di-O-(P-toluoyl)tartaric acid as well as the histamine-like activity of t…

By means of data from critical demixing and vapour pressure measurements and by inverse gas chromatography, including the results of published light scattering measurments, a consistent picture is obtained for the entire dependence of the Flory-Huggins parameter χ on the weight fraction w2 of the polymer and on the temperature T for the system tert-butyl acetate/polystyrene. Within the entire T-range (ca. 0°C – 140°C), χ increases stronger than exponentially with w2, the rise being the larger the larger χH (the enthalpy contribution to χ) becomes in the limit of infinite dilution. At sufficiently high temperatures (≳ 50°C), χH changes its sign from negative to positive as w2 is raised. This…
