[Background and aim]: Hypertension is a major public health problem and a leading cause of death and disability in both developed and developing countries, affecting one-quarter of the world's adult population. Our aim was to evaluate whether the consumption of gazpacho, a Mediterranean vegetable-based cold soup rich in phytochemicals, is associated with lower blood pressure (BP) and/or reduced prevalence of hypertension in individuals at high cardiovascular risk.

The subject of the study is one of the characteristic Silesian soups - wodzionka, which has since 2007 been on the List of Traditional Products kept by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The reference literature and the current field research indicate that the characteristic soup with bread and garlic is consumed throughout Upper Silesia - both in rural and industrial communities. The genesis of its consumption, just as that of other traditional dishes, is directly associated with once meager nutrition. Na beztydzień i od święta - o tradycyjnych zupach w śląskim menu

Przedmiotem niniejszego artykułu jest śląskie menu ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem tradycyjnych zup, czyli polewek. Na podstawie materiałów archiwalnych oraz materiałów pozyskanych w trakcie prowadzonych badań terenowych wśród ludności autochtonicznej dwóch województw: opolskiego i śląskiego (w latach 2007-2017) omówiono w nim wybrane, charakterystyczne zupy spożywane w ciągu tygodnia oraz te obowiązujące w dni świąteczne. Zwrócono w nim także uwagę na przemiany, jakim one podlegały w ciągu wieków. W opracowaniu zaprezentowane zostały następujące zupy. zupy z chleba, tj. wodzionka, germuszka i biermuszka-, dalej zaś żur, siemieniotka/konopiotka, rosół i rosół z młodzików.
