Glycosylamines of 4,6-O-butylidene-α-d-glucopyranose: synthesis and characterization of glycosylamines, and the crystal structure of 4,6-O-butylidene…

2002

A total of nine glycosylamines of 4,6-O-butylidene-α-D-glucopyranose were synthesized using primary amines having various groups in their ortho- or para-positions. Among these, six are monoglycosylamines, including one primary glycosylamine, and three are bis-glycosylamines. All these compounds were characterized by 1H, 1H–1H COSY, 1H–13C COSY and 13C NMR spectroscopy and FTIR spectra. The FAB mass spectra provided the molecular weights of the products by exhibiting the corresponding molecular ion peaks. The crystal structure of 4,6-O-butylidene-N-(o-chlorophenyl)-β-D-glucopyranosylamine revealed the C-1 glycosylation, the β-anomeric nature, and the 4C1 chair conformation of the saccharide …

Interaction of metal ions with N-glycosylamines: isolation and characterization of the products of 4,6-O-benzylidene-N-(o-carboxyphenyl)-β-D-glucopyr…

2001

Metal-ion complexes of Li+, Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Ba2+, Pb2+, Cd2+, Hg2+ with 4,6–O–benzylidene–N–(o–carboxyphenyl)–β–D–glucopyranosylamine were synthesized and isolated as solid products and characterized by analytical means as well as by spectral techniques, such as, 1H and 13C NMR, FTIR, absorption, FAB mass spectrometry, optical rotation and CD. While the alkali metal ions formed ML type of complexes, the other metal ions formed ML2 type complexes. Molecular weights of the complexes of Li+, Na+ and K+ were established based on the molecular-ion peaks in the FAB mass spectra. The saccharide portion remians in the β-anomeric form even after the complexation. The spectral data, as well as t…

Facio-auricle-vertebral spectrum (Goldenhar's syndrome): Clinical study of 10 pediatric patients

2002

Goldenhar's syndrome - also known as facio-auricolo-vertebral spectrum - is due to a developmental defect of cranio-facial and vertebral structures, and is interpreted as a disruption. Exogenous factors, such as gestational diabetes or ovopathies, have been involved in its aetiology. The pathogenesis of Goldenhar's syndrome seems to be vascular in most of cases, due to the interruption of blood supply to the branchial and vertebral areas during embryonic development. Ten cases of facio-auricolo-vertebral spectrum of different ages are described, in view of a better delineation of its phenotype. This report can contribute to a better knowledge of the phenotype of facio-auricolo-vertebral spe…

Amplification of Interstory Drift and Velocity for the Passive Control of Structural Vibrations

2008

Mitigation of structural damage due to earthquake ground motion may be performed by inserting dampers in the structure. In order to enhance the damping effect various toggle brace configurations have been recently proposed. In this paper these equipments are analyzed in detail and compared with a new one here proposed. The analysis is performed by taking into account the inherent nonlinearities of the damper by means of stochastic analysis and validated by using time histories of recorder accelerograms and by the stochastic analysis using spectrum consistent power spectral density.

Isolation and Characterization of Epidermal DNA and RNA from Guinea Pig Skin

1971

DNA and RNA were isolated from mammalian epidermis in a relatively small scale procedure. The high purity and native state of the DNA isolated is reflected by its molar absorptivity E (P), its thermal hyperchromicity and its hyperchromicity upon DNase treatment and by its sedimentation profile as well as by its profile in a cesium chloride density gradient. The very low content of protein and RNA, as well as the data of DNA determination, indicate that this method permits the isolation of a highly purified product. This is further substantiated by the determination of UV absorption spectra and by analysis of the base composition. The mammalian skin DNA showed the following properties: Mol. w…

Estudiantes Universitarios con Trastornos del Espectro del Autismo: Revisión de sus necesidades y notas para su atención

2021

[ENIn the last 10 years we have seen an increase in the number of publications related to the inclusion in university classrooms of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Asperger's Syndrome or high functioning autism. This article summarizes the literature on the presence of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders at the University and reflects on the need to develop specific programs for their care within the framework of support services for students with disabilities or other similar service structures. Among the specific measures, we have found experiences on awareness programs for teachers and students with the aim of generating a culture about "autism", programs to treat anxiety, m…

Search for high-mass resonances decaying to dimuons at CDF.

2009

We present a search for high-mass neutral resonances using dimuon data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.3 fb(-1) collected in pp collisions at s=1.96 TeV by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. No significant excess above the standard model expectation is observed in the dimuon invariant-mass spectrum. We set 95% confidence level upper limits on sigma BR(pp -> X ->mu mu), where X is a boson with spin-0, 1, or 2. Using these cross section limits, we determine lower mass limits on sneutrinos in R-parity-violating supersymmetric models, Z(') bosons, and Kaluza-Klein gravitons in the Randall-Sundrum model.

Evidence for Astrophysical Muon Neutrinos from the Northern Sky with IceCube

2015

Results from the IceCube Neutrino Observatory have recently provided compelling evidence for the existence of a high energy astrophysical neutrino flux utilizing a dominantly Southern Hemisphere dataset consisting primarily of nu_e and nu_tau charged current and neutral current (cascade) neutrino interactions. In the analysis presented here, a data sample of approximately 35,000 muon neutrinos from the Northern sky was extracted from data taken during 659.5 days of livetime recorded between May 2010 and May 2012. While this sample is composed primarily of neutrinos produced by cosmic ray interactions in the Earth's atmosphere, the highest energy events are inconsistent with a hypothesis of …

First search for atmospheric and extraterrestrial neutrino-induced cascades with the IceCube detector

2011

We report on the first search for atmospheric and for diffuse astrophysical neutrino-induced showers (cascades) in the IceCube detector using 257 days of data collected in the year 2007-2008 with 22 strings active. A total of 14 events with energies above 16 TeV remained after event selections in the diffuse analysis, with an expected total background contribution of $8.3\pm 3.6$. At 90% confidence we set an upper limit of $E^2\Phi_{90%CL}<3.6\times10^{-7} GeV \cdot cm^{-2} \cdot s^{-1}\cdot sr^{-1} $ on the diffuse flux of neutrinos of all flavors in the energy range between 24 TeV and 6.6 PeV assuming that $\Phi \propto E^{-2}$ and that the flavor composition of the $\nu_e : \nu_\mu : \nu…

Gaia-ESO Survey: Gas dynamics in the Carina nebula through optical emission lines

2016

Aims. We present observations from the Gaia-ESO Survey in the lines of Hα, [N II], [S II], and He I of nebular emission in the central part of the Carina nebula. Methods. We investigate the properties of the two already known kinematic components (approaching and receding), which account for the bulk of emission. Moreover, we investigate the features of the much less known low-intensity high-velocity (absolute RV >50 km s) gas emission. Results. We show that gas giving rise to Hα and He I emission is dynamically well correlated with but not identical to gas seen through forbidden-line emission. Gas temperatures are derived from line-width ratios, and densities from [S II] doublet ratios. Th…
