Arginine Vasopressin Enhances Sympathetic Constriction Through the V1 Vasopressin Receptor in Human Saphenous Vein

1998

Background—Arginine vasopressin (AVP) not only acts directly on blood vessels through V1 receptor stimulation but also may modulate adrenergic-mediated responses in animal experiments in vivo and in vitro. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether AVP can contribute to an abnormal adrenergic constrictor response of human saphenous veins. Methods and Results—Saphenous vein rings were obtained from 32 patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery. The vein rings were suspended in organ bath chambers for isometric recording of tension. AVP (331029 mol/L) enhanced the contractions elicited by electrical field stimulation at 1, 2, and 4 Hz (by 80%, 70%, and 60%, respectively) …

Synthesis of new asymmetric xanthene dyes via catalyst-free SNAr with sulfur nucleophiles

2014

Addition of a single functional handle to the tricyclic moiety of fluorescein results in asymmetric xanthene dyes. Our synthesis of a new class of asymmetric xanthenes proceeds via an unusual SNAr with sulfur nucleophiles on electron rich aromatic xanthenes scaffolds in the absence of a metal catalyst. The resulting 3'-thioethers exhibit high photostability and are conveniently converted into reactive dyes for macromolecule labelling.

SIMILARITY NETWORK FOR SEMANTIC WEB SERVICES SUBSTITUTION

2013

Web services substitution is one of the most challenging tasks for automating the composition process of multiple Web services. It aims to improve performances and to deal efficiently with Web services failures. Many existing solutions have approached the problem through classification of substitutable Web services. To go a step further, we propose in this paper a network based approach where nodes are Web services operations and links join similar operations. Four similarity measures based on the comparison of input and output parameters values of Web services operations are presented. A comparative evaluation of the topological structure of the corresponding networks is performed on a ben…

Collective excitations of 3He clusters

1991

Collective excitations of3He clusters are studied by treating the cluster as a quantum liquid drop. We have used the Random-Phase Approximation sum rules technique within a Density Functional Formalism. Results forL=2 to 10 surface modes and theL=0 volume mode are presented.

Where Alonso meets Sierpinski: an urban economic model of a fractal metropolitan area

2004

IDOSUSCON: IDentifying and understanding Obstacles to SUStainable food CONsumption with meat substitutes as a case study

2022

Background: The food industry is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions: excessive meat consumption is associated with negative health outcomes and a disproportionately high environmental impact. To achieve more sustainable food consumption, consumers must reduce their meat consumption in favour of plant-based alternatives. In recent years, the steady increase of meat consumption in Sweden has subsided but given the 50 years of unprecedented increase in meat consumption prior, this is not enough. The main objective of IDOSUSCON was to obtain knowledge on how to increase the consumption of meat-free alternatives, with meat substitutes as a case study. Meat substitutes represent one …
