When used in relatively high quantities, Precirol ® ATO 5 imparts sustained-release properties to solid oral dosage forms, by forming a lipid matrix. Crosslinked α,β-Polyasparthydrazide Micromatrices for Controlled Release of Anticancer Drugs

The preparation of new hydrogels by the reaction of α,β- polyasparthydrazide and glutaraldehyde is reported. A different crosslinking degree was obtained by varying the ratio crosslinking agent/polymer which influenced the swelling behavior of the gel. 5-Fluorouracil, was incorporated into the matrices during the crosslinking reaction and in vitro release studies were performed in simulated gastric juice (pH 1.1) and pH 7.4 buffer solution. The hydrogels prepared were chemically stable in the dissolution media. The observed data show the potential application of these new matrices for peroral administration of anticancer agents.

A novel pH-sensitive and biodegradable composite hydrogel, based on a methacrylated and succinic derivative of dextran, named Dex-MA-SA, and a methacrylated and succinic derivative of alpha,beta-poly( N-2-hydroxyethyl)- DL-aspartamide (PHEA), named PHM-SA, was produced by photocross-linking. A commercial low density polyethylene was irradiated by gamma irradiation at room temperature with different integrated doses and dose rates. The modifications induced in the material were studied by means of solubility and swelling measurements and related to structural modifications by calorimetric measurements. Results indicate that crosslinking prevails with respect to degradation at high dose rates and that the ageing phenomena occur essentially in the amorphous phase. Poly(methyl ethylene phosphate) hydrogels

Abstract A degradable and water-soluble polyphosphoester (PPE), namely poly(methyl ethylene phosphate)-dimethacrylate (PMEP-DMA), was synthesized and crosslinked by UV irradiation to prepare PPE-hydrogels. Hydrogels with 10 and 15 wt% of PMEP were prepared after UV-irradiation with an additional 0.2 wt% of photoinitiator. The colorless and transparent PPE hydrogels were studied for their swelling and water uptake. The rheological analysis demonstrated their viscoelastic behavior. Drug release from calcium and zinc pectinate beads: Impact of dissolution medium composition

The aim of this study was to investigate drug release from calcium and zinc pectinate beads and to understand the impact of medium electrolytes during drug transfer. A potential drug carrier for colonic drug delivery (rutin) was prepared with calcium and zinc pectinate beads and was tested in three different simulated intestinal fluids (pH 7.3) with phosphates (Sorensen’s and Mc Ilvaine’s buffers) and without phosphates (Tris-buffer). BIOADHESIVE PROPERTIES OF A POLYAMINOACIDIC HYDROGEL: EVALUATION BY ATR FT-IR SPECTROSCOPY

The bioadhesive properties of a novel chemical hydrogel based on a polymer of protein-like structure, have been investigated by using ATR FT-IR spectroscopy. In particular, the copolymer PHG obtained by partial derivatization of PHEA with GMA was chemically crosslinked by UV irradiation at 313 nm. Crosslinked PHG was treated with water to obtain a swelled sample, named PHG-UV gel, that was brought into contact with a phosphate buffer/citric acid solution at pH 7.0 in the absence or in the presence of mucin at various concentrations (0.01, 0.1 and 1 wt.-%).
