Maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 max) is the maximum amount of oxygen attainable by a person during exercise. VO2 max is used in different domains including sports and medical sciences and is usually measured during an incremental treadmill or cycle ergometer test. The drawback of directly measuring VO2 max using the maximal test is that it is expensive and requires a fixed and controlled protocol. BackgroundThis study was designed to investigate the validity of maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) estimation through the Firstbeat fitness test (FFT) method when using submaximal rowing and running programs for well-trained athletes.MethodsWell-trained flatwater rowers (n = 45, 19.8 ± 3.0 years, 184 ± 8.7 cm, 76 ± 12.9 kg, and 58.7 ± 6.0 mL⋅kg–1⋅min–1) and paddlers (n = 45, 19.0 ± 2.5 years, 180 ± 7.7 cm, 74 ± 9.4 kg, and 59.9 ± 4.8 mL⋅kg–1⋅min–1) completed the FFT and maximal graded exercise test (GXT) programs of rowing and running, respectively. There are several techniques for the measurement of laboratory scale biogas production. This thesis describes the study and evaluation of the most significant and commonly used biogas measurement techniques and analyzes the source of errors associated with the measurement of biogas production. Firstly, inaccuracy mainly due to biogas carbon dioxide (CO₂) dilution in displaceable liquids and losses to atmosphere of dissolved CO₂ was evaluated by testing solubility of CO₂ in different barrier solutions. Tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin lukemisen ja aritmetiikan sujuvuutta ja niiden kehitystä toisen koululuokan aikana kolmena ajankohtana (lukukauden alussa, keskellä ja lopussa). Lukemisen sujuvuuden kehitys oli edistyvää niin sujuvilla kuin sujumattomillakin lukijoilla. Sen sijaan yhteen- ja vähennyslaskutaidon sujuvuudessa ei tapahtunut juurikaan kehitystä sujumattomilla laskijoilla, toisin kuin sujuvilla laskijoilla, joiden kehitys oli edistyvää lukukauden aikana.
