Towards a learning community: understanding teachers’ mental models to support their professional development and learning

Amidst societal, demographic and educational changes, teachers are expected to engage in professional development and learning (PDL) throughout their careers. This study explores school teachers’ mental models about their work in the framework of Senge’s learning organisation, aiming to support their PDL during curriculum reform and organisational changes. Constructing a pedagogical practice across disciplines in pre-service teacher education

In this paper we report a qualitative case study of a teaching intervention in which a pre-service subject teacher pair planned and conducted a course integrating Finnish language and ethics in a multilingual setting. Audio-recorded planning sessions and interviews including learning diaries were analysed using qualitative content analysis to identify the dynamics of collaborative cross-curricular pedagogical practice development and pedagogical language knowledge. The purpose of the research was to find out what kind of connections a music project based on multilateral learning has on pupils’ (children’s) actions and learning when using music education technology as a tool, and how the music project affected the class teacher students’ shared cognition and the development of their professional identity. Tutkimuksen tehtävänä oli kuvata opettajaksi opiskelevien 1) käsityksiä opettajan työn eettisestä luonteesta, 2) näkemyksiä ohjaajan, opettajan ja kouluttajan työn eettisistä haasteista käytännössä, 3) oikeudenmukaisuutta koskevia menettelytapoja sekä 4) pedagogista etiikkaa määritteleviä kuvauksia. Tutkimusaineisto kerättiin vuosina 2001-2003 Joensuun yliopiston kasvatustieteiden tiedekunnassa opettajaksi opiskelevilta osana opettajan pedagogisiin opintoihin kuuluvaa pedagogisen etiikan opintojaksoa.
