The purpose of this study was to estimate to what extent muscle cross-sectional area of the lower leg (mCSA) and tibial structural strength are influenced by common and trait-specific genetic and environmental factors. pQCT scans were obtained from both members of 102 monozygotic (MZ) and 113 dizygotic (DZ) 63- to 76-yr-old female twin pairs to estimate the mCSA of the lower leg, structural bending strength of the tibial shaft (BSIbend), and compressive strength of the distal tibia (BSIcomp). The fatigue of the musculoskeletal system during running may decrease the ability of the body to absorb those shock waves and increase the risk of injury. The Hoffmann reflex of human plantar foot muscles

Electrical stimulation of the tibial nerve in the popliteal fossa evoked an M wave (10.9 ms) and a late reflex response (38.1 ms) in the plantar foot muscles of all 10 volunteers. The late response had a somewhat lower electrical threshold than the corresponding M wave (8.5 versus 9 mA), and reached a maximum of amplitude when the stimulus intensity was increased, but was strongly suppressed by further increased intensity. A more distal stimulation of the tibial nerve at the ankle shortened the onset latency of the M wave and lengthened that of the late response. Effects of Ultraviolet Photoactivation on Osseointegration of Commercial Pure Titanium Dental Implant After 8 Weeks in a Rabbit Model

This study investigated whether a 6-Watt ultraviolet C-lamp was capable of producing photofunctionalization on commercial implants during a medium observation term of 8 weeks. In this study, we aimed to determine whether the combination of electroporation (EP) and ultrasound (US) waves (sonoporation) can affect the plasmid DNA transfection to mice tibialis cranialis muscle. Multispectral imaging technique combined with fluorescence spectroscopy point measurements has been used for the transcutaneous detection of enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) fluorescence, providing information on location and duration of EGFP expression. Growth patterns at distal radius and tibial shaft in pubertal girls: a 2-year longitudinal study.

Bone changes, in terms of both size and BMD, were assessed longitudinally in pubertal girls. Before puberty, BMD at the distal radius declined, whereas bone size increased, suggesting that normal growing girls experience a transient period of increased bone fragility.
