Phenology of the Braconidae (Hymenoptera, Ichneumonoidea) at Andorra has been conducted/studied using a Malaise trap after a one-year cycle during 1993. A total of 1.892 specimens, representing 23 subfamilies and 79 genera were sampled. About 93.7% of the captures were koinobiont braconids, whereas 6.3% belonged to idiobiont braconids. The annual phenology has been characterized through the correlation between the evolution of the collected braconids and the weather (meteorological conditions). The maximum of the populations were registered between the two rain periods. In fact, the family Braconidae shows an abundance peak from middle of May to end of August, due to the xerothermic conditi…

The role of small airways in monitoring the response to asthma treatment: what is beyond FEV1?

2009

The definition of asthma has evolved from that of an episodic disease characterized by reversible airways constriction to a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways, with at least partially reversible airway constriction. Increasing evidence supports the notion that small and large airways play a central role in asthma pathophysiology with regard to inflammation, remodeling and symptoms. The contribution of the distal airways to the asthma phenotype carries implications for the delivery of inhaled medications to the appropriate areas of the lung and for the monitoring of the response to asthma treatment. Asthma control is evaluated on the basis of symptoms, lung function and exacerbation…

Tristetraprolin Regulates the Expression of the Human Inducible Nitric-Oxide Synthase Gene

2005

The expression of human inducible NO synthase (iNOS) is regulated both by transcriptional and post-transcriptional mechanisms. Stabilization of mRNAs often depends on activation of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38 MAPK). In human DLD-1 cells, inhibition of p38 MAPK by the compound 4-(4-fluorophenyl)-2-(4-methylsulfinylphenyl)-5-(4-pyridyl)1H-imidazole (SB203580) or by overexpression of a dominant-negative p38 MAPKalpha protein resulted in a reduction of human iNOS mRNA and protein expression, whereas human iNOS promoter activity was not affected. An important RNA binding protein regulated by the p38 MAPK pathway and involved in the regulation of the stability of several mRNAs is tr…

Immunfluorescence study of neuropeptides in identified neurons of the rat auditory superior olivary complex.

1999

The present study was conducted to investigate the distribution and immunohistochemical characteristics of ascending and descending projection neurons of the rat superior olivary complex (SOC), a group of interrelated brainstem nuclei. Ascending neurons were identified by injection of cholera toxin B subunit (CTB) into the central nucleus of the inferior colliculus (IC), descending neurons were labeled by application of Fluoro-Gold (FG) into the scala tympani of the cochlea, ipsilaterally to the IC injection. In accordance with the literature, we observed neurons innervating the IC located in the lateral superior olivary nucleus (LSO) and dorsal periolivary groups (DPO) on both sides, in th…

Effectual tactics in digital intrapreneurship: A process model

2020

Abstract Uncertainty and the pursuit of new ventures are intricately linked. Digital technologies open up new ways for uncertainty handling in the pursuit of novelty. In this paper, we develop a process model that traces the dynamics among uncertainty, digitally enabled tactics, and organizational novelty. The model points to the potential of technologies that are evocative, disposable, and responsive for venturing in complex, uncertainty-ridden contexts. Our research builds on extant conceptualizations of complexity in innovation journeys, in conjunction with perspectives on effectual entrepreneurial tactics. Empirically, we investigate uncertainty handling through a longitudinal case stud…

Modelling and forecasting mortality in Spain

2008

[EN] Experience shows that static life tables overestimate death probabilities. As a consequence of this overestimation the premiums for annuities, pensions and life insurance are not what they actually should be, with negative effects for insurance companies or policy-holders. The reason for this overestimation is that static life tables, through being computed for a specific period of time, cannot take into account the decreasing mortality trend over time. Dynamic life tables overcome this problem by incorporating the influence of the calendar when graduating mortality. Recent papers on the topic look for the development of new methods to deal with this dynamism. Most methods used in dyna…

Study of vacancy defects in PbSe and Pb1-xSnxSe by positron annihilation

1993

Abstract Positron lifetime measurements have been performed to study vacancy defects in vapour-liquid-solid (VLS) grown PbSe and Pb 1- x Sn x Se ( x = 0.07, 0.1, 0.3). Post-growth annealing under various vapour pressure conditions has been used to change the number of Pb vacancies, resulting in the determination of the specific positron trapping rate μ Pb v = (1.0±0.1)×10 14 s -1 . The sensitivity range of the positron annihilation method to the Pb vacancies was found to be 10 17 Pb ] 20 cm -3 . Positron lifetimes in perfect PbTe, PbSe and PbS crystals have been calculated. Moreover, we have predicted lifetimes of positrons trapped by vacancies. The calculated lifetimes in bulk and defects …

Thermische Cycloadditionen von 1,2‐Dihydropentalen

1989

Thermal Cycloaddition of 1,2-Dihydropentalene 1,2-Dihydropentalene (1) is a cross-conjugated 6π-electron system, that can act in thermal cycloaddition processes as a 2π, 4π, or 6π component. The addition reactions with tetraphenylcyclopentadienone (1+23), N-pheny…

Herstellung von 1,5‐Cyclooctadiin und 1,3,5,7‐Cyclooctatetraen aus 1,5‐Cyclooctadien

1994

Preparation of 1,5-Cyclooctadiyne and 1,3,5,7-Cyclooctatetraene from 1,5-Cyclooctadiene Bromination of 1,5-cyclooctadiene (1) and stepwise dehydro-bromination first with KOtBu and then with KOtBu/18-crown-6 yields 1,5-cyclooctadiyne (5). A prolonged interaction of the base causes a complete transformation to cyclooc-tatetraene (6). Diyne 5 and even more the intermediate enyne 4 are highly reactive dienophiles. The cycloadducts 10–14 formed with 1,3-cyclohexadiene, carbon disulfide, and tetraphenylcyclopentadienone were isolated and characterized. Treatment of 5 with titanium tetrachloride induces a vigorous polymerization.
