Valorization of alginate for the production of hydrogen via catalytic aqueous phase reforming
2018
Abstract Alginate, a carbohydrate abundant in the outer cell wall of macroalgae, was subjected to catalytic aqueous phase reforming (APR) to produce hydrogen using a 3% Pt/C commercial catalyst. The performance of the process was evaluated according to the conversion of the carbon to gas, the hydrogen yield and the hydrogen selectivity. The catalyst and feed amount, temperature, reaction time, pH and the presence of H2 were modified to understand the dependence of the outcome of the process on these parameters. The presence of the catalyst was fundamental in order to increase the hydrogen yield compared to the uncatalyzed reaction, and it can be reused without activity loss. In addition, it…
Complexes of organometallic compounds. XXXVIII. Anion Exchange Studies on the Trimethyllead (IV) Thiocyanate aqueous complex system
1974
The distribution of Me3PbIV between the anion exchange resin Dowex 1 X 8 and aqueous solutions of NaSCN and KSCN was investigated. In the aqueous phase, up to 3 M thiocyanate concentration, only the formation of the neutral species Me3PbNCS was detected and the related stability constant evaluated. Evidence of formation into the resin phase of the anionic Me3Pb(NCS) species was obtained.
A Combined Theoretical and Experimental Approach for Platinum Catalyzed 1,2-Propanediol Aqueous Phase Reforming
2017
Decomposition pathways of 1,2-propanediol (1,2-PDO) on platinum were investigated by means of experiments and quantum-mechanical calculations. Different reaction paths on a Pt(111) model surface were computationally screened. Gas and liquid phase products distribution for aqueous phase reforming of 1,2-PDO solutions was experimentally analyzed. A mechanistic approach was used to trace the preferred paths according to calculated activation barriers of the elementary steps; in this way, the presence or absence of some hypothesized intermediates in the experiments was computationally rationalized. Hydroxyacetone was demonstrated to be among the most favored decomposition products. The competit…
Modification of calix[4]arenes with CMPO-functions at the wide rim. Synthesis, solution behavior, and separation of actinides from lanthanides
2003
Two calix[4]arene tetraethers (Y = C5H11, C14H29) bearing on their wide rim four –N(Me)–CO–CH2–P(O)Ph2 residues were synthesized for the first time. Their ability to extract lanthanides and actinides from an acidic aqueous phase to organic phases (CH2Cl2, NPHE) was studied. In comparison to the corresponding –NH-analogs, they are less efficient extractants, the selectivity for the light over the heavy lanthanides is less pronounced, while there is still an interesting selectivity of Am3+ over Eu3+. Stability constants for selected lanthanide salts were determined also in homogenous phase (methanol, acetonitrile) but do not account for the different extraction results. The complexation of Gd…

Structure and composition of model cheeses influence sodium NMR mobility, kinetics of sodium release and sodium partition coefficients
2012
International audience; The mobility and release of sodium ions were assessed in model cheeses with three different lipid/protein ratios, with or without added NaCl. The rheological properties of the cheeses were analysed using uniaxial compression tests. Microstructure was characterised by confocal laser scanning microscopy. (23)Na nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy was used to study the molecular mobility of sodium ions in model cheeses through measurements of the relaxation and creation times. Greater mobility was observed in cheeses containing a lower protein content and with added NaCl. The kinetics of sodium release from the cheese to an aqueous phase was correlated with th…
Robust Mesoporous CoMo/γ-Al2O3 Catalysts from Cyclodextrin-Based Supramolecular Assemblies for Hydrothermal Processing of Microalgae: Effect of the P…
2018
Hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) is a promising technology for the production of biocrude oil from microalgae. Although this catalyst-free technology is efficient under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions, the biocrude yield and quality can be further improved by using heterogeneous catalysts. The design of robust catalysts that preserve their performance under hydrothermal conditions will be therefore very important in the development of biorefinery technologies. In this work, we describe two different synthetic routes (i.e., impregnation and cyclodextrin-assisted one-pot colloidal approach), for the preparation in aqueous phase of six high surface area CoMo/γ-Al2O3 catalysts. Cat…
The modeling of dissimilar welding of immiscible materials by using a phase field method
2013
A multiphysical model of high power beam welding of immiscible materials is developed to explain the influence of operational parameters and materials properties on resulting morphology by simultaneous solving of heat transfer, fluid flow and mass transfer problems. The introduction of phase field description of the interface motion between two immiscible liquids allows obtaining the cartography of melted zone in function of two key-parameters: the position of heat source relatively to joint line and the welding speed. Due to the short thermal cycle limiting mass transfer, high power beam welding techniques may result in very inhomogeneous melted zones. In this study, the interest is paid t…
Water-dispersed semiconductor nanoplatelets with high fluorescence brightness, chemical and colloidal stability
2019
Quasi-two dimensional semiconductor nanoplatelets (NPLs) exhibit high spectral brightness and large absorption cross sections, making them promising for various applications including bioimaging. However, the synthesis of NPLs takes place in organic solvents, therefore they require phase transfer in order to use them in aqueous environments. The phase transfer of NPLs has so far been challenging with few examples in literature. This is likely due to the facile agglomeration of materials with plate-like geometries during the coating procedure. Here we demonstrate how to overcome agglomeration and transfer NPLs, individually coated with amphiphilic polymer chains, to aqueous phase. Upon one a…
Numerical Simulation as a Tool for Design Optimization of Two-Phase Swirl Flow Atomizers
2021
This study aims to analyze the hydrodynamics in two-phase swirl flow conical atomizers. The Euler-Euler model was used for the calculations. Numerical simulations were performed to provide information about the fluid velocity distribution and the atomizer’s internal flow. The numerical calculations confirmed the experimental data. This data was found based on the consistency of the spray angles obtained by both methods. Assuming the correctness of the numerical simulations performed, they can be treated as a tool for further analysis of mass and energy exchange along with the atomizer and optimizing the atomizer’s design depending on the requirements. The influence of the swirl chamber geom…
