Syntheses of Some Biologically Active Compounds from Stilbenes Isolated from the Bark ofPicea abies

From the four stilbenes 1–4 isolated from the bark of Picea abies seven compounds 5–11 were obtained by hydrogenation or permethylation. 1H-, 13C-NMR and mass spectra were used for their characterization. The antileukemic activity of each compound was preliminary tested. Some compounds were further tested for their anti-HIV activity.

The genome of all Bunyavirales consists of negative-sense RNA segments wrapped by the virus-encoded nucleocapsid protein (NP) to form ribonucleoproteins (RNPs). Background A considerable percentage of tumors are not amenable to surgery. We have designed a simple and powerful targeting system that offers an alternative option for the multi-component pre-targeting strategies used clinically. This targeting system can be used for any type of solid tumors independent of the tumor type, thereby omitting the need to engineer unique antibodies for each specific application or tumour type. Efficient resolution of acute cytopathogenic cytomegalovirus infection through innate and adaptive host immune mechanisms is followed by lifelong maintenance of the viral genome in host tissues in a state of replicative latency, which is interrupted by episodes of virus reactivation for transmission. After a recent detection of Citrus tristeza virus (CTV) in Calabria (Southern Italy), an investigation was initiated in the spring 2006 to survey for the virus in this Region. The survey showed that CTV was not present in the nurseries which indicated that citrus mother plants and citrus plantlets ready for marketing have fulfilled completely the phytosanitary requirements. CTV was not detected in citrus-growing areas of Catanzaro, Cosenza and Crotone Provinces, but was found, at different levels in infected plants, in some orchards located in the Reggio Calabria and Vibo Valentia Provinces. Tomato black ring virus (TBRV) is a worldwide-distributed RNA virus infecting a wide range of different host plants, including crop species, trees, shrubs, and weeds. Here, we investigated the molecular evolution of TBRV and its adaptability to different plant species. The TBRV-Pi isolate was used to generate five independent evolution lineages serially passaged in either quinoa, tobacco, or tomato plants. Human T cells (H9), infected with the HTLV-IIIB strain of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1), have been used to study the alteration of 2',5'-oligoadenylate [2'-5')A) metabolism in relation to virus production. The synthesis of (2'-5')A was determined to proceed in close association with the nuclear matrix. After HIV infection the (2'-5')A synthetase activity increased from 1.1 to 1.5 pmol of (2'-5')A synthesized/100 micrograms of nuclear matrix protein (during a 3-h in vitro incubation period) to 8.2 pmol at day 3 after infection.
