Biomolecules, and particularly proteins, bind on nanoparticle (NP) surfaces to form the so-called protein corona. It is accepted that the corona drives the biological distribution and toxicity of NPs. Here, the corona composition and structure were studied using silica nanoparticles (SiNPs) of different sizes interacting with soluble yeast protein extracts. Adsorption isotherms showed that the amount of adsorbed proteins varied greatly upon NP size with large NPs having more adsorbed proteins per surface unit. The protein corona composition was studied using a large-scale label-free proteomic approach, combined with statistical and regression analyses. Most of the proteins adsorbed on the N…
α-Hydroxy-Isocaproic Acid (HICA)—Effects on Body Composition, Muscle Soreness and Athletic Performance
2013
Alfa-hydroxy-isocaproic acid (HICA) is an end product of leucine metabolism in human tissues such as muscle and connective tissue. Clinical and experimental studies indicate that HICA may be considered as an anti-catabolic substance. Intensive exercise leads not only to anabolism but also to catabolism in the muscle. The latter is associated with breakdown of muscle proteins and delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS). Several studies indicate that free branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), especially leucine, and their transaminated metabolites, such as α-ketoisocaproic acid (KIC), may alleviate symptoms associated with exercise-induced catabolism. Recent findings suggest that HICA effectively …
Acides gras des phospholipides plaquettaires et des lipides plasmatiques chez le rat obése Zucker
1988
AbstractThe purpose of this work was to see whether hyperlipaemia observed in genetically obese Zucker rats (fa/fa) was associated with differences in fatty-acid composition of plasma triacylglycerols, plasma phospholipids and of platelet phospholipids, in comparison with the control lean rats (Fa/-).Results showed that plasma triacylglycerols and phospholipids were increased in obese rats. In triacylglycerols, the amount of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids was highly increased whereas the amount of the n-6 and n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids was little modified. In plasma phospholipids, saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids were also increased, as were the n-3 fatty acids (exc…
ChemInform Abstract: Addition of Organolithium Reagents to Cinnamic Acids.
2010
Abstract Reaction of tert -butyllithium with p - and m -substituted cinnamic acids at low temperature affords mixtures of 1,4- and 1,3-addition products, whose composition depend on the nature of the substituents. Electron-donating and electron-withdrawing groups favour 1,4- and 1,3-additions, respectively. Linear correlations are obtained with electronic effect and with radical substituent constants.
Effect of proteins, phytates, ascorbic acid and citric acid on dialysability of calcium, iron, zinc and copper in soy-based infant formulas.
2000
The possible effect of ascorbic acid, citric acid, proteins and phytate on dialysability of Ca, Fe, Zn and Cu in soy-based infant formulas is studied, taking dialysability as a measure of the amount of element available for absorption. Different dialysis percentages for similar element contents in different formulas are found. A regression analysis was applied between Ca, Zn, Cu and Fe dialysis percentages and soy-based formula components to estimate the possible influence of the latter on the dialysability of the elements. Significant correlations were found between citric acid contents and dialysability of Zn and Fe. No correlations were found between protein, ascorbic acid and phytic aci…
Volatiles ofSideritis mugronensisFlower and Leaf
1991
ABSTRACT The composition of the essential oil obtained from the flowers and the leaves of Sideritis mugronensis in two different stages of their reproductive development is described. The major components of the leaf and flower oils were sabinene: 1.30–10.59% and 2.70–15.21%; 1,8-cineole: 11.60–17.19% and 11.06–28.65%; and α-bisabolol: 5.57–25.49% and 3.40–16.12% respectively.

Preservation in Disaster Situations: a case study of the Valvilla Wool Mill Museum, Finland
2013
This article discusses the role of documentation and rescue planning in minimizing collection damages in disaster situations. The topic is surveyed through a case study of a fire that occurred in 2003 at the Valvilla Wool Mill museum in Hyvinkää, in Southern Finland. This incident caused significant damage to the authenticity and integrity of the museum’s archival collection. Both the fire and the extinguishing of the fire caused severe damage to items in the archival collection. Deterioration continued during aftercare, causing serious secondary collection damage because the methods of the first aid and aftercare were spontaneously planned and applied. By using the Valvilla Wool Mill museu…
Effect of Mycoplasma agalactiae mastitis on milk production and composition in Valle dell Belice dairy sheep
2019
Contagious agalactia (CA), a disease caused by Mycoplasma agalactiae and other pathogenic mycoplasmas, is a well-known multietiological syndrome affecting dairy breeds of sheep and goats in the Mediterranean basin. The aim of this work was to study the effect on milk production and composition of mastitis caused by M. agalactiae in Valle del Belice dairy sheep. All ewes were manually milked twice daily and the milk from both daily milking was analysed for milk composition and somatic cell counts. Moreover the morning milk samples were collected aseptically from each animal for bacteriological analyses. A mixed linear model was utilised to consider milk production and composition between ani…
