The Role of Combined ICRF and NBI Heating in JET Hybrid Plasmas in Quest for High D-T Fusion Yield

2017

Combined ICRF and NBI heating played a key role in achieving the world-record fusion yield in the first deuterium-tritium campaign at the JET tokamak in 1997. The current plans for JET include new experiments with deuterium-tritium (D-T) plasmas with more ITER-like conditions given the recently installed ITER-like wall (ILW). In the 2015-2016 campaigns, significant efforts have been devoted to the development of high-performance plasma scenarios compatible with ILW in preparation of the forthcoming D-T campaign. Good progress was made in both the inductive (baseline) and the hybrid scenario: a new record JET ILW fusion yield with a significantly extended duration of the high-performance pha…

Evaluation of different mechanical fruit harvesting systems and oil quality in very large size olive trees

2014

In 2006 and 2009, trials were carried out in the Apulia region in Southern Italy to evalu-ate the possibility of mechanizing olive harvesting in groves of old and very large trees. The trees belonged to the cultivars ‘Cellina di Nardò’ and ‘Ogliarola Salentina’. They were 60-100 years old and 7-9 m tall with a canopy volume of 140-360 m3. In the first half of November 2006, with a mechanical beater mounted on a tractor plus hand-held pneumatic combs, the harvesting yield was close to 90% of the total olives present in the canopy, and the harvesting working productivity was around 60 kg of harvested olives h-1 worker-1. With a self-propelled shaker attached to the main branches the harvestin…

Synthesis of Dirhodium(II) Complexes with Several Cyclometalated Thienylphosphines

2006

The thermal reaction of dirhodium tetraacetate with tris(3-thienyl)phosphine (3TP), diphenyl(3-thienyl)phosphine (3TPPh2), and diphenyl(2-thienyl)phosphine (2TPPh2) gives rise to mono-cyclometalated and bis-cyclometalated compounds; the latter can have a head-to-head (H−H) or head-to-tail (H−T) configuration. Bis-cyclometalated compounds with H−T configuration can be prepared in high yield under photochemical conditions or by combining irradiation with subsequent thermal treatment in acetic acid. The reactivity order of aromatic ring C−H activation is phenyl < 2-thienyl ≪ 3-thienyl, which leads to a selective activation of the thienyl ring. Thus, only one mono-cyclometalated compound is obt…

Persistent radicals of trivalent tin and lead.

2008

In this report we present synthetic, crystallographic, and new electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopic work that shows that the synthetic route leading to the recently reported, first persistent plumbyl radical *PbEbt3 (Ebt = ethylbis(trimethylsilyl)silyl), that is, the oxidation of the related PbEbt3-anion, was easily extended to the synthesis of other persistent molecular mononuclear radicals of lead and tin. At first, various novel solvates of homoleptic potassium metallates KSnHyp3 (4a), KPbHyp3 (3a), KSnEbt3 (4b), KPbIbt3 (3c), and KSnIbt3 (4c) (Hyp = tris(trimethylsilyl)silyl, Ibt = isopropylbis(trimethylsilyl)silyl), as well as some heteroleptic metallates, such as [Li(OE…

Orthometallation reactions of tris(p-methoxyphenyl)phosphine with dirhodium(II) tetraacetate

1998

Abstract Reactions of dirhodium(II)tetraacetate [Rh2(OAc)4] with tris(p-methoxyphenyl)phosphine (PMP) at 1:1 and 1:2 molar ratios yield, first appropriate adducts: [Rh2(OAc)4P(p-CH3OC6H4)3] (1a) and [Rh2(OAc)4{P(p-CH3OC6H4)3}2] (2a), and then orthometallated [Rh2(OAc)3{μ-(p-CH3OC6H3)P(p-CH3OC6H4)2}(HOAc)2] (1) and [Rh2(OAc)2{μ-(p-CH3OC6H3)P(p-CH3OC6H4)2}2(HOAc)2] (2) complexes, respectively. They have been characterized by spectroscopic methods. The molecular structure of 1 has been determined by the X-ray methods. Crystal data: space group P1, a=11.085(5), b=11.387(5), c=13.900(6) A, α=97.29(3), β=105.23(3), γ=91.93(3)°. In this compound The Rh–Rh distance is 2.421(1), Rh–P bond length 2.1…

UV-induced solvent free synthesis of truxillic acid–bile acid conjugates

2009

The solvent free UV-induced [2 + 2] intermolecular cycloaddition of two molecules of 3α-cinnamic acid ester of methyl lithocholate produced in 99% yield of α- and e-truxillic acid-bis(methyl lithocholate) isomers, which possess two structurally different potential binding sites. A prerequisite for this effective solid state reaction is a proper self-assembled crystal structure of the starting conjugate crystallized from acetonitrile. The crystallization of cinnamic acid ester of methyl lithocholate from acetonitrile produces two different crystalline forms (polymorphs), which is the reason for the solid state formation of two isomers of truxillic acid-bis(methyl lithocholate).

A Short Synthesis of Polysubstituted Pyrrolidines via α-(Alkylideneamino)nitriles

2004

α-(Alkylideneamino)nitriles can be deprotonated under mild conditions. Their conjugated anions react with enones in a 1,4-addition to yield δ-keto-α-(alkylideneamino)nitriles which in turn can be reduced to form pyrrolidines in a one-pot reaction sequence.

New Fluorinated 1,3-Vinylogous Amidines as Versatile Intermediates: Synthesis of Fluorinated Pyrimidin-2(1H)-ones.

2006

The condensation of the azaenolates derived from readily available ketimines with fluorinated nitriles offers an efficient and straightforward entry to new fluorinated 1,3-vinylogous amidines. These versatile compounds, in turn, react with triphosgene to yield new fluorinated pyrimidin-2(1H)-ones in high yields.
