Anastomotic Techniques and Associated Morbidity in Total Minimally Invasive Transthoracic Esophagectomy

Objective: The aim of this study was to describe anastomotic techniques used for total minimally invasive transthoracic esophagectomy (ttMIE) and to analyze the associated morbidity. Background: ttMIE faces increasing application in surgical treatment of esophageal cancer. For esophagogastric reconstruction, different anastomotic techniques are currently used, but their effect on postoperative anastomotic leakage and morbidity has not been investigated. Patients and Methods: Patients were selected from a basic dataset, collected during a 5-year period from 13 international surgical high-volume centers. Endpoints were anastomotic leakage rate and postoperative morbidity in correlation to ana…

Edilizia Storica: Nuove esigenze e Prestazioni

The subject of regeneration of energy resources in historic buildings, in light of the new laws, proposes the abandoning of traditional approaches to a building’s performance in favour of an assessment of its quality with regard to energy and the environment, with a change in concepts and strategies inherent to sustainable construction. In support of the validity of this proposal, the project input will be geared towards achieving aims of environmental sustainability; they will be addressed to historical buildings and contexts, highlighting how interventions traditionally linked to recovery and restoration already implicitly contain many factors that can be shared with the criteria for sust…

Sostenibilità ambientale e regolamenti edilizi

The Directive 2010/31/EC construction 2020, introduced a strategy based on upgrading the energy efficiency of buildings and the infrastructure maintenance. Public administrations are rediscovering the centrality of their building regulations and test new control tools and programming and new ways to achieve energy efficiency and environmental sustainability of buildings. The debate on Smart City, having great relevance today, focuses on two important issues strongly related to each other: the RI.U.SO. means the Sustainable Urban Requalification and the review of planning instruments, particularly the Building Regulations, which modification, generally, did not follow the demand for quality …

The evolution of thought on environmental issues has imposed to anyone involved in construction a leap in scale today we combine the study of rational use of energy at the building scale, through innovative technologies integrated in to building, strategies and technologies for the microurbana scale. While it is true that the indications given to insiders have, first, reported only possible actions on the building (Directive 2002/91/CE) is not to forget the request, of the European union, of planning interventions at urban scale. It is in consideration to this that the theme of the Eco-neighborhoods should be studied as formality of employment of the energies in urban context, to model a ne…

In tale qua…

L’ICT a supporto degli Eco-Regolamenti Edilizi - ICT for Eco-Building Regulations

The issue of the Smart Cities as a model of sustainable urban future is preminent in the objectives of Horizon 2020 and the Technology Platform for Italian and European Construction. The main actor of this change is the Public Administration, which, through the Building Regulation, has to promote building processes, both new construction projects, but especially the requalification of the existing building stock, focusing on energy efficiency and sustainability. This implies the use of innovative technologies and new materials, components and systems (distributed micro-generation, solar cooling, etc.), Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to improve the rational use of energy re…

FA01.02: THE EFFECT OF POSTOPERATIVE COMPLICATIONS AFTER MIE ON LONG-TERM SURVIVAL: A RETROSPECTIVE, MULTI-CENTER COHORT STUDY.

Abstract Background Esophagectomy has a high incidence of postoperative morbidity. Complications lead to a decreased short-term survival, however the influence of those complications on long-term survival is still unclear. Most of the performed studies are small, single center cohort series with inconclusive or conflicting results. Minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) has been shown to be associated with a reduced postoperative morbidity. In this study, the influence of complications on long-term survival for patients with esophageal cancer undergoing a MIE were investigated. Methods Data was collected from the EsoBenchmark database, a collaboration of 13 high-volume centers routinely per…

The Italian municipalities have taken only the first steps on the road to smart cities. By 2020 thanks to the European Community and the Mayors agreement in 2008, cities aiming to be smart (for energy management, transport, digital technologies, social policy) will focus on sustainable development, by innovations and adequate partners. The general goal of resource saving and use of renewable energy has become a strategic necessity, fully involving architecture, whose environmental load in industrialized countries has become unsustainable. The national regulatory framework is constantly evolving, because the new European Directive 31/2010/CE, repealing the E.D. 91/2002/CE, obliges from Januar…

The Effect of Postoperative Complications After Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy on Long-term Survival: An International Multicenter Cohort Study

Item does not contain fulltext BACKGROUND: Esophagectomy is a technically challenging procedure, associated with significant morbidity. The introduction of minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) has reduced postoperative morbidity. OBJECTIVE: Although the short-term effect on complications is increasingly being recognized, the impact on long-term survival remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the association between postoperative complications following MIE and long-term survival. METHODS: Data were collected from the EsoBenchmark Collaborative composed by 13 high-volume, expert centers routinely performing MIE. Patients operated between June 1, 2011 and May 31, 2016 were included…
