Summary The higher Lepidoptera produce two types of sperm, eupyrene and apyrene. Eupyrene spermatozoa are fertile, while apyrene spermatozoa are anucleate and, therefore, sterile. Measurement of correlations between pions from different W's in e+e- → W+W- events

Correlations between pions from different W's in e(+)e(-) --> W+W- events are studied using data collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP running at a centre-of-mass energy of 172 GeV in 1996. At the present level of statistics, no enhancement of the correlation function above that expected from a pair of uncorrelated W's is observed at small values of the four-momentum difference of the pions. Transcriptional regulators are thought to play a key role in cell fate determination and territorial specification in sea urchin. Our goals are to clone transcription factors for studying embryonic development. One approach has been to use promoter binding and gene transfer technology to investigate the mechanisms of transcriptional activation and repression of the early H2A histone gene. Pattern recognition using sequential matched filtering of wavelet coefficients

Abstract A bank of wavelets is used for pattern recognition by means of sequential filtering. Each element of the bank is matched to a different wavelet coefficient of the target. A sequential process leads to a set of correlation outputs. Post-processing by means of a fast blending method provides the final output correlation. Both computer simulations and optical experiments are presented, showing the discrimination capability for this implementation.

The author reviews the history of Tirant in the Iberian Peninsula through the literary tastes and reflections of characters who have a main importance in the creation of the Hispanic aesthetic canon: from the different translations to the critical and literary opinions. Mérida describes to us the possibilities of reading and the influences, possible or not, of Martorell's work on other authors' creations, such as Rodríguez de Montalvo, Cervantes or Avellaneda. From the aforementioned authors, to critics such as Clemencín or Pascual de Gayangos, Mérida has presented a study which becomes the testimony of the life and death of the experts' fascination of Martorell' s great novel.

Abstract The association of water-soluble vinyl polymers to dimyristoyl phosphatidic acid unilamellar vesicles as a function of pH, temperature and salt content using steady-state fluorescence and viscometry has been investigated. Poly(4-vinyl pyridine) fluorescence data were converted to association isotherms and discussed in terms of binding and partition models. High-mass ϱ-meson states from p̄d-annihilation at rest into π−π0π0pspectator

Abstract A study of p -annihilation in liquid deuterium into π − π 0 π 0 and a spectator-proton is presented. A cut on the proton-momentum of ≤ 100 MeV/ c ensures that annihilation takes place on a quasi-free neutron. A partial wave analysis shows contributions from three vector mesons, with masses and widths of (763.7 ± 3.2; 152.8 ± 4.3), (1411 ± 14; 343 ± 20); (1780 −29 +37 ; 275 ± 45) MeV/ c 2 , respectively.
