An RFLP analysis of the chloroplast genetrnK of 32 species of the generaPapaver, Roemeria, Stylomecon, andMeconopsis leads to the following conclusions: (1) AsianMeconopsis consists of two distinct clades and is paraphyletic in relation toPapaver, Roemeria, Stylomecon, and the W EuropeanMeconopsis cambrica. (2) Sister group relationships ofRoemeria toPapaver sect.Argemonidium and ofStylomecon toPapaver californicum are well-supported. (3)Meconopsis cambrica is nested withinPapaver (incl.Roemeria andStylomecon). Unitary Approach to Vibrational Spectra of Tetrahedral Molecules: Generalized Infrared Intensity Model.

International audience; In this paper we further extend a previous formalism, the construction of a dipole function adapted to tetrahedral molecules. The extension is based on an algebraic construction of symmetrized tensor operators through unitary algebra and point group symmetry. We prove that this generalization allows us to find the particular formalism that has been established and satisfactorily tested in a previous paper (C. Leroy et al., J. Mol. Spectrosc. 175, 289–295 (1996)).

Entre enero de 1988 y diciembre de 1993 se realizaron 64 osteotomías valguizantes infratuberositarias fijadas con tutor tubular AO en 61 pacientes portadores de genu varo artrósico. La edad promedio fue de 48 años. La corrección obtenida se mantuvo hasta la consolidación que se verificó en promedio a las 7 semanas. Se realizaron 186 procedimientos en 167 pacientes con discrepancia en la longitud de las extremidades, realizando osteotomías metafisarias y metadiafisiarias proximales o distales. El ritmo de distracción fue 1 mm por día, iniciando al décimo día postoperatorio, con 114 fémures y 69 tibias, 1 húmero, 1 cúbito y 1 peroné. This paper presents the axiomatic foundations of uncertainty theories arising in quantum theory and artificial intelligence. Plausibility measures and additive uncertainty measures are investigated. The representation of uncertainty measures by random sets in spaces of events forms a common base for the treatment of an appropriate integration theory as well as for a reasonable decision theory.

Using proximity and spatial homogeneity in neighbourhood-based classifiers

In this paper, a set of neighbourhood-based classifiers are jointly used in order to select a more reliable neighbourhood of a given sample and take an appropriate decision about its class membership. The approaches introduced here make use of two concepts: proximity and symmetric placement of the samples.

Expansion of SN 1993J: New λλ6 and 13 cm images

Abstract Radio supernovae are rare events among supernovae, usually taking place in distant galaxies. In recent years, great progress has been made in the study of radio supernovae with high angular resolution, due to advances in the VLBI technique and to the lucky occurrence of the powerful supernova SN 1993J in M81 only 3.6 Mpc distant. Its spatial structure has been unveiled and its expansion rate determined at 3.6 cm. Here we present new preliminary VLBI results on the expansion of this supernova at 6 and 13 cm. We resolve the shell at both wavelengths. The size estimates at 6 cm indicate a lower expansion rate than previously estimated. This may be the first evidence of deceleration.

A randomized controlled trial of high-dose maintenance interferon therapy in chronic hepatitis C

In chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, the rate of sustained response to interferon is low. We evaluated, in patients responding to a 26-week course of interferon, the effect of high-dose maintenance therapy in preventing relapse. Three hundred and ten patients with chronic HCV infection (38.3% with cirrhosis, 80.6% with HCV type 1) received interferon alfa-2b for 26 weeks (10 MU tiw for 8 weeks, then 5 MU tiw for 18 weeks). One hundred and twenty-four subjects (40%) normalized aminotransferases, and were allocated randomly either to continue on 5 MU tiw for a further 26 weeks (prolonged therapy group: 60 patients) or to stop interferon (brief therapy group: 64 patients). The capacity to balance intimacy and conflict: Differences in romantic relationships between healthy and diabetic adolescents

This chapter focuses on developmental changes in romantic relations of adolescents differing in health status. Whereas healthy adolescents were increasingly able to balance both intimacy and conflict in their relationships with romantic partners, diabetic adolescents were unable to experience both positive and negative relationship qualities. Although this developmental delay was partly overcome, after four years some differences were still noticeable.

Arthralgia as an early extraintestinal symptom of Whipple's disease. Report of five cases.

Five patients with Whipple's disease all suffered from arthralgia for a long time (15 years in one case) before developing gastrointestinal or other symptoms. In all patients, arthralgia was seronegative, and there was no evidence of joint destruction. Arthralgias were symmetric and migrating. Whipple's disease is part of the differential diagnosis of enteropathic arthralgia. Thereby, the polymerase chain reaction can be a helpful tool to prove Whipple's disease in difficult differential diagnosis.
