The largest part of Kenya exhibits two major rainy seasons, the March–May «long rains» and the October–December «short rains», both related to the passage of the ITCZ, but differing in the amount of rainfall recorded and its interannual variability. In order to investigate whether these differences also apply at intraseasonal time-scales, daily rainfall data for the peak month of each rainy season (April and November) were collected for 7 consecutive years (1982–1988). In the rat pineal gland the adrenergic cGMP response is not static but changes during postnatal development and depends on environmental lighting conditions. Since the adrenergic cGMP transduction is mediated by stimulation of the enzyme nitric oxide synthase I (NOS I), we investigated whether changes in the strength of adrenergic cGMP response coincide with the expression of NOS I. Using immunoblot analysis, we found that the increase in adrenergic cGMP transduction in the second postnatal week coincides with enhanced NOS I expression. Rather often difficult (and sometimes even undecidable) problems become easily decidable for tally languages, i.e. for languages in a single-letter alphabet. For instance, the class of languages recognizable by 1-way nondeterministic pushdown automata equals the class of the context-free languages, but the class of the tally languages recognizable by 1-way nondeterministic pushdown automata, contains only regular languages [LP81]. We prove that languages over one-letter alphabet accepted by randomized one-way 1-tape Monte Carlo pushdown automata are regular. However Monte Carlo pushdown automata can be much more concise than deterministic 1-way finite state automata.

Phylogenetic relationships of 14 species and one variety of the genus Polygonatum as well as three species of the genus Disporopsis and Heteropolygonatum roseolum were analyzed based on mapped restriction site variation in a PCR-amplified chloroplast genome region, trnK. In agreement with earlier taxonomic treatments it was found that Disporopsis and Heteropolygonatum should be distinguished from Polygonatum at generic level, and that P. sect. Polygonatum can be recognized as a monophyletic group. Earlier series concepts in P. sect. Postinjury endophthalmitis is the eye infection with the worst prognosis. A retrospective 9-year study was made of penetrating eye injuries, with an analysis of the incidence of infection and its relation to the type of wound and the presence of intraocular foreign bodies. There were 403 cases of penetrating eye injury; of these, 233 affected the cornea and 170 involved the posterior pole. Intraocular foreign bodies were present in 40 cases. Endophthalmitis developed in 4.2% of cases (17/403), and was more common in patients with posterior pole involvement (7%) than in purely corneal trauma (2.1%) (p = 0.03, Chi-square). Titanium-magnesium catalysts containing Lewis bases are very effective in the polymerization of ethylene and α-olefins. Lewis bases either influence the catalytic properties directly or change the structure of the catalyst. The catalysts under study were obtained from titanium(IV) and titanium(III) chlorides supported on complexes of magnesium dichloride with Lewis bases, of the type [MgCl 2(LB) 2], where LB: ethanol, n-pentanol, tetrahydrofuran, ethyl acetate, ethyl propionate, or ethyl benzoate. Abstract By the aid of circular dichroism (CD), absorbance and fluorescence spectroscopy, we studied the molecular organization of the pigment molecules in cells, isolated chloroplasts and the chlorophyll a / c light-harvesting complex (LHC) associated with photosystem II of the chlorphyll c -containing alga, Pleurochloris meiringensis . In cells and chloroplasts, similarly to higher plant chloroplasts, a (+) 693 nm CD band accompanied by a tail outside the absorbance indicated a long-range chiral organization of the chlorophyll molecules. Recording amplitude and travel time of acoustic pulse response, an area-distance function of the cross sectional dimensions of the endotracheal tube and the adjacent airway was calculated to obtain an acoustic pattern of the airway. Setenta y un pacientes del sexo femenino y 10 del masculino. El período de inmovilización fue en promedio de 3,6 meses. Transition radiation in the x-ray region from a low emittance 855 MeV electron beam

A quasi-monochromatic hard x-ray beam with a photon energy of 33 keV has been produced from transition radiation (TR) at the Mainz Microtron MAMI. The radiator was a stack of 30 polyimide foils of 25 μm thickness and 75 μm separation and the monochromator a highly-oriented pyrolytic graphite crystal. The intrinsic bandwidth was measured with a critical absorption technique to be 100 eV. On the basis of these experiments a photon flux of 4⋅109/mm2s over an illuminated area of 5.7×125 mm2 can be expected from an optimized beryllium radiator at a beam current of 100 μA.
